I'm back home after a grocery store run, and there was a lot of damage in my neighborhood. Three houses down a huge tree limb fell on my neighbor's car, shattering his windshield and smashing the roof of the vehicle. At the house next door to that, a huge limb took out that neighbor's mailbox, and other downed limbs were blocking her driveway. On the path I took the store, three large trees had been uprooted. Luckily they all missed falling on dwellings by a couple of feet.

Been hectic here. i have not been home today, went to Huntsville for family thing that had been planned. I don't know if there was a tornado, but a lot of trees down. i foolishly went out in the storm, got home ok. some shingles off the house, but no real damage. The wind picked up and 5 minutes later i looked out. 3 trees down in front yard, 3 huge branches from neighbors down in back. spent 2 hr with my niece and nephew cleaning enough of my driveway off to get in and out. winds were unrelenting most all day. i have roofer coming, the back roof will need to be replaced. I have not had time to look at siding and shop. Fortunately, the big tulip poplar by the front of the house fell away from the house, it could have been much worse. On out trip to Huntsville Al, we saw trees down, lots of damage everywhere. My son drove from Indianapolis yesterday. Not so bad there, he said it got worse the closer he got to me. i am glad you are ok, Brad! I have been wondering, just been rushing. i am fortunate, it could have been worse. And i have not lost power, hard to believe. A friend lives in Bowling Green in an elderly community, they don't expect to get power back to Monday. Thank you all for your concern, fortunately I came thru nasty weather much better than others.

You all have my sympathies. That wind can really create havoc. I'm glad to hear everyone is safe if not sound. Those straight line winds before a front can be pretty bad as evidenced by your pictures even if they are not tornadoes. Oklahoma has had 5 tornadoes already the first week of January and our "season" hasn't even started yet.....I hope we all stay safe this year.................Maryl

I had a very stressful evening watching my trees sway. A couple did come down in the wooded portion of my property but thankfully nothing inside the planted areas or worse yet on top of my fencing.

I did lose power for a bit but nothing tragic.

I'm not usually an anxious person but wind is another story entirely it seriously scares me any more. I lived in hurricane country for 30 years and we kept all our trees well away from structures down there, but since moving back up here we notice that people have homes snuggled almost in trees and it makes me wary. I have one or two left that could maybe kinda sorta possibly hit my carport if they fell just right, but by and large we've had the closer ones removed. Still, standing back from a window and watching can be equal parts terrifying and impressive- those trees sure do have a lot of leeway when they sway!!

Maryl - The weird thing about this is that the worst winds here came after the storm - and they persisted for many hours afterward. I don't remember anything like that before. I was glad that we no longer have any large trees. My three all had storm damage in the past and were removed. I only have a little dogwood now.

Nancy - So glad you checked in with us! I'm so sorry about your roof and three trees down. Glad to know you are physically OK. I did find one shingle in my yard. It's likely from my roof or shed, but I don't see any shingles missing.

Sorry to hear about the wind damage but glad to hear nothing serious happened. We were lucky here this time, everything stayed south of us.

Winds can be scary. The 1st front that came through has some heavy rain, but I did not know, did not hear it because of the wind. The heaviest winds came suddenly with the 2nd front, that is when my trees all fell. The neighbor came over with his skid steer this morning and moved 2 trees and a part of another to the back where I can burn it later. He said he had lost a dozen pine trees. My sons were here and we got the limbs trimmed off the biggest tree, hoping the neighbor can move it without the limbs, although I doubt it. My chainsaw is too small to cut through the trunk, may have to call my nephew. Still have half another tree to trim back some branches so he can move it. I may get enough energy to do that in a day or 2. 2 trees were uprooted from the neighbor and fell on me, I hope they will take care of those, so will wait a while to see what happens. I heard we had gusts up to 80 MPH.

Wow, glad to hear none of you were hurt. We'e had strong storms over the past couple of weeks but nothing like what you have encountered. Stay safe.

I saw the same story with trees: everywhere we have gone around the area, huge trees down and not one had hit a house even when right next to it. God's protection! Sorry about your trees and damage, Nancy, but glad the house was safe overall and that you are. Debra, glad to hear you were ok too. For us, the worst of the winds was also after the storm.

The local weatherman said that the low pressure center that came through was super low, practically a once in a lifetime event it is so rare.

The neighbor did get our tree cut down with no damage to anything else. Good riddance to the tree. We have several trees [4 silver maples and one hackberry] that I wish we could get rid of. Silver maples especially are prone to breaking.

There are still people without power in the Ky, the Lexington area and some in Wilmore. So thankful we didn't lose power.

We had one death here; a (tree fell on man who was in his car. The worst of the damage was in the more northern portion of the state, but trees were down pretty much everywhere.

I'm so glad that all of you checked in with us. Storms with high winds are so scary. I live on a mountain and I've had my share. Earlier this winter we had a terrible winter storm that took down one of our largest pines. The wind gust was around 70 mph and sounded like a freight train barreling through. The top portion of it was impaled like a spear into our frozen ground about 4 feet down. It landed only a couple feet from our house. That top portion is still frozen into the ground under the snow.

Glad you guys are all OK. We also had the wind and torrential rains. Our neighbor lost an open ended small horse barn but thankfully no trees down around me. Some shingles lost on houses and flooded roads. Nancy, it sounds like you and Brad have clean up to do for a while. Celeste that was some wind!

My yard is pretty much cleaned up now. Thank you all for well wishes. One of my daughters lives on an adventure farm [horses, zip lines, hiking, etc.] and one of their barns was totally smashed to the ground. Sounds like 5 deaths total in Kentucky. Considering the damage, that seems like a small number.

My wife works in Lexington and I convinced her to stay home since she can ask to work from home. She was so glad she did as she would have been coming home at 4:30 in the midst of the peak of the winds.

Mine still a mess. I was planning on getting someone doing it all for me, but friends and neighbors have been cutting and moving for me. Of course, I am helping. Gonna fill the whole back yard with downed trees while I wait for it to dry to burn. Do I seem gripy? Don't mean to be, but I am really tired. It is so wonderful when people come together to help, Makes me ashamed of myself that I don't do much for them. Did not do an awful lot yesterday, I trimmed some on the trees, but my knees are giving out on me. Trimming is ok, but the pulling and tugging bothers them. My chainsaw is only battery power and 16" so won't take the big parts of the tree, but I figure whatever I can do is less for someone else.. My nephew is coming back to take care of the trunks today when he gets off work, if all goes well. My neighbor to the other side came yesterday. They have 2 trees down on me and are going to take care of those. Previous owner just left them to us when it happened, so this is nice.

Nancy - It sounds like you still have a lot to deal with. I'm glad your neighbors and relatives are helping you with the cleanup.

Brad - I think your wife did the right thing by working from home on Friday. It was really to dangerous to be outside. I'm glad your yard is cleaned up now. I didn't think I had much debris in the yard, but at the back there are a couple of medium-sized limbs I need to drag to the street.

Nancy: Sounds like you've got your hands full but glad you got help. Take your time and do as much as you can and don't get overwhelmed by it all. Take care of yourself.
