if sand.. it will probably drain away when the soil thaws ..

if clay.. i dont know ...

i had an area at the old house.. that was under ice and water at spring thaw ... for upwards of a week or two.. with no adverse effect on any plants ...

your situation may be the same.. or more extreme.. i dont know..

The soil varies depending on the bed. There used to be a rail line across this yard, so that section is quite gravelly. The rest is clay.

What is growing in the beds - any good self-seeders? About 10 years ago a clay part of the backyard garden had standing water that froze…. Everything initially died in that area but before I could replant, the self-seeders regrew some good-looking plants and some of the thicket-forming type shrubs had come back from the roots. So, in the end, I didn’t need to replant anything! I hope you have good luck too….
