There are basically a gazillion chair options. Seeing the actual table and space would be helpful. Even if you hired a designer, they would need to see the table and space - unless they are really psychic. ( I do know how to read tarot cards, but never use them for this. :)

Agree with Jan... No wood chairs, no wood legs of apholstered chairs. Too much wood now, need something else.

I think that a leather chair in a color such as rust, even with wooden legs could look great.

Your table is chunky in weight but I don’t get the feeling of wood overload.

There is a nice level of contrast between the table and the floor and the white cupboards in the background. A leather parsons chair is not original but it suits lots of settings. Choose as high a quality of leather as you can swing.

That table in the original post is not my table or in my house. The table is being built. My current table is covered in silver-making supplies or I would take a photo. I will attach photos of my living room which the dining room comes off of. The floors in my house are very ugly and need to be replaced so, we have a large black and gray rug in the dining room. The cabinets in the kitchen are white and the walls are a very light gray. It's a basic 80's dining area. I have a World Market metal buffet against the wall and it is big enough to hold a 72" table. The photos I attached are in the hall off the kitchen that are very large and the 3 take up the length of the hallway (for color and texture reference). I want something practical and comfortable but I'm drawn to fabric dining chairs which I think might look stupid in my very casual and not so fancy house. Excuse the blankets on the couch - I have dogs who don't have rules.

Just as a tip - look up the max weight capacity before you purchase. Some dining chairs are as low as 170#. Yes, the cheap ones of course.

The style of your space is transitional. There's no ”Sundance”, no “Bohemian“, no ”Zen meets” anything. You have some rust in your art from what I can see - but the rest of your space is basically grey with a bit of wood. Plus, we have yet to see the actual table... But from what is seen thus far - yes, Beverly’s first, second, or fourth chair option would be best.

You said the original photo is not your house and that the floors in your house are ugly and you will have them replaced. Can I confirm a few assumptions for us all? The current floors in the living room are wood. Can we assume they also are in the dining room? Will you replace both living room and dining room floors with wood? Sorry if that seems obvious to you. Also, you cover ugly wood floors now with area rugs. But will you cover beautiful wood floors with area rugs? I mean that's ok and what I and most people would do but I want to check. If so, then I think wood legs on the chairs would be ok so that widen's your options. You have dogs that haven't read the rulebook and get up on your sofas. Will they sit on your chairs and shed fur like cats do? Sorry, I've never been blessed with dogs and don't know. Do you also have a cat? I'm thinking leather or plain wood is better than fabric with cats. Can you tell us if that's an issue? I'm assuming not but would like confirmation. If it's not a problem, you may enjoy fabric chairs. Do you want chairs that can be moved easily with one hand across a rug? Or do you want something heavier? Do you want a mix of chairs with simpler chairs for the sides and more substay chairs at each end (more formal)? I see mostly blue and neutrals in the living room adjacent to the dining room. Do you want blue dining room chairs? Or do you want neutral? Do you have a color in mind? Now here's the most important. Several chairs have been posted. Can you choose and re-post a few you like? Have any been perfect for you?

Ok, here's the dining room and the way it comes off the living room. Yes, I mentioned "styles" that aren't correct because, honestly, my little, humble house is a hodgepodge of our lives - I have local art, pottery, some handmade pieces of furniture, a lot of stones and rocks, way too many pictures of our adventures throughout the house, an over-abundance of throw blankets and treasures I've found while hiking and traveling and my little buddhist monk statues throughout. It's definitely eclectic and I apologize for mentioning the "vibe" of the house and what my friends say when they come here and not the exact techinical style. Anyways, there is definitely no blue in the house (except my daughter's room), my dogs (one which is large) most likely won't get on the dining chairs. I am a practical person by nature and I want something for my dining table that I won't have to replace over and over again that can use if I change the colors in the house or if I move. My house isn't fancy as you can see but it is well loved and there is a lot of life that goes on here - as per the dining table with jewelry making supplies covering it. The table you see is smaller than the one I'm replacing it with and the jewelry making will have to stay in the basement so it doesn't ruin it. I hate the table now even though the style will be very similar. My budget is varied - I saw some low-back wood windsor chairs at Pottery Barn that would be $1500 total and that is probably the max I want to spend. I am planning the main chairs now and then if I have room, I want to add more comfortable head chairs. I struggle with patterns because I feel like I don't get them right. If I do patterns, it's usually earthy with leaves and trees, sometimes mandalas. I like muted colors and calm so, I keep everything simple. I've said a lot. I appreciate all of you who have been gentle and kind with me. I don't love my house and it needs a lot of work, it's a boring 80's house and not my charming old house I used to have where I painted the walls purple so, posting pictures of it is kind of outside of my comfort zone. Thank you for helping me! ....and the actual table is being made. I don't have it for another 3 weeks.

Here are some chairs I have been musing over. I would then not know if I should do dark gray, light gray or a leather-tone or orange-tone chair. I would hate the fabric ones in orange. I also don't know if the low back chairs are going the wrong direction. I tried looking at ones with patterns and got overwhelmed.

i have the slope chairs, which come in a variety of colors, and which were mentioned by the first respondent. they are the most comfortable dining chairs i’ve ever sat in and i would buy them again in a heartbeat.

I hope you didn't think I was being critical. I was repeating some terms you used. It sounds like you are a lot like me loving jewelry making and hiking and natural things.

Vanessa, I think any of the ones you posted would look fine … it’s just a matter of the comfort level you want.

I have an old Amish-made table and six heavy wood chairs — a few years ago I replaced four of the chairs with this style you posted (except mine are brown and faux suede):

I’m very happy with them. I like how light and comfortable they are, and the bit of fun mod they bring to my rustic table and two of the original wood chairs on the ends. I found them on Overstock.

But I’d wait until you get the table in the house before deciding. Seeing it in place might help narrow down what you want.
