Office, bookshelf, reading nook, small game table, plants, art gallery, piano.

Perhaps there is a better seating arrangement for your room that would benefit from a larger TV screen in the room.

The screen over the FP appears way too small for the scale of your room.

Thank you! Not a Tv that is watched!

A bar would be nice there.

Oh, your lucky. I’d do a recessed built in cabinet & so floating shelves. Or just floating shelves. Like this.

Can we see more of the room to see more than a sectional and the fireplace? is it open concept? is there a dining room? open to kitchen? difficult to suggest anything without a bit more info...

What do you use this room for? What do you need - open shelves for display, floor to ceiling closet storage, drawer storage, homework area, home office, household planning center, sculpture, artwork, bookcases, reading nook, window seat without window, bigger TV and console?

I'd call an electrician, get rid of the light, add studs, and drywall to make it flush with the rest.

It will cost less than trying to make it look appropriate. From your picture, it doesn't appear a great spot for the tv.

A drawing of the entire space, with all dimensions noted and including the recess would help. As would more pictures , different angles of the entire space.

Given the tray in the ceiling next to it? It was for someone else a dining area/ serving spot in an open living and dining space. But again.......no drawing and measure? Who knows.

Bookshelves and a desk or a bar area ? But need to see rest of the room …is this a one room house ? Need more photos

Yeah, call an electrician, then a framer & drywaller to essentially not use the space you already have. That’s a waste of money. If the tv over your fireplace is an actual tv, it looks like a chalkboard. Not sure but I wouldn’t close it up, then your just looking at blank empty wall instead of making it functional & look nice, which you don’t need to hire anyone for.

I would not close it up, but would take advantage of this space to do something interesting there. I see there is lighting recessed above it.

My friends house, will get more photos. Thank you for your input!

I thought maybe a bar as well

If this is a house with children, a built in that can hide toys and games might be useful. An adult house would look great with a bar! Cabinet or fridge below, and floating shelves. Contrasting paint or interesting wallpaper behind the shelves.
