Creative decorating advice

Hi everyone!
I have just painted a guest bedroom an apricot color (pics) from the original dungeon colored red wall (before photo also included). I know orange isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I love color and wanted to brighten up the room, so I’m happy with it. I think it’s an improvement, but curious and welcome any suggestions on color scheme or other decorating in the room- not changing the wall color but to compliment it. Thanks in advance! Look forward to hearing any suggestions. Have a lovely day!

I love teal with orange and this is about the only place I like a grey but a blue grey. Find a bedding you love and work from there. I am sure others will post suggestions.

I would start with a more substantial rug to cover more of the floor which doesn’t look so great. Pick up color from rug (aqua or teal would be great) for a daybed cover that at least covers the mattress and bed frame. Add some back support pillows to daybed in coordinating colors/prints. Is there room to move the bed away from the window and put the small table and lamp (recommend a more substantial lamp) in that corner instead of in front of the window? The other pieces should be placed parallel to walls instead of in a corner which takes up more physical and visible space. If you have a small bench elsewhere in the house that might work under the window.

Is that the best spot for the bed? Can it go on the wall where the dresser and mirror are located?

I also love apricot/coral/peach/melon colors and I wear a lot of these colors, but they are challenging because they are not overly popular and when you try to match shirt and pants the colors are often just a bit off, one is too yellow, the next too pink and it throws things off.

Finding bedding to work with the exact shade of paint that you picked may prove just as challenging. You probably should have picked bedding with the colors you wanted and then matched the wall color to the bedding. Paint colors can be adjusted to work with the bedding, but you won't be able to adjust bedding color to the paint, so now you have to find the right apricot color in bedding. You may need to buy quite a few sets till you find the perfect one.

I also know that you love the color you selected, I do too, but I would have chosen this color as the color in my area rug and bedding and art and let the walls be the backdrop for the color I love.

Blues and bluer greens are great complements to apricot.

Floral bedding often has both pinks and various yellow and orange shades.

Google apricot floral bedding to get some ideas. Switch it up to orange floral, peach floral, orange and teal bedding . . till you find some that seem to be the right shade to work with your walls and is a color combination and style that you love.

Paint the ceiling the same as the walls but at only 50% the color. (They can do this for you where you bought your paint.) Especially in a room with slanted ceilings it looks nice to feel enveloped in the space and makes a small room feel less choppy.

Because this is a guest room I'd go for a lux and relaxing vibe - not teal or blue. I think grey is lovely - use it in your bedding, pillows, curtains, lamp shade. (Have fun at Home Goods.)

All of these colors will feel subtle and allow your beautiful dresser to pop. I had a guest room with grey walls and found a rug on sale with apricots and pinks. I went on spree at Home Goods and came away with these grey and apricot bedding and accent pillow combo.

I had a 3rd floor office. The floors were really messed up and I needed to cover them with an inexpensive rug. Against my usual taste, I got an eyelash shag rug from Target. I thought they were really modern and tacky but to my surprise it worked really well with a vintage look. I think it would be a nice luxury feeling for your guests to put their feet on first thing in the morning.

That’s a wonderful color! Such a charming room.

I agree about painting the ceiling and rearranging things a bit.

I’d bring in black and am picturing a tasseled rug. This particular one is an accent, only three feet … if you want more floor coverage it could be layered over a solid, low pile neutral rug or find a bigger round one. Or even have low pile carpet installed.

I like a textured coverlet in a cream color, then fold down whatever quilt/duvet you use. Find colorful accent pillows.

I’d use a scalloped roller shade with cream curtains.

ETA: If you’re wanting to keep your rug (it is pretty), consider layering it over a sisal, jute, or seagrass rug.

Agree with the suggestion of teal with apricot. A ”dusty” aqua might also be nice.

I just came across this gorgeous quilt from Anthropologie and think it would look fantastic in your room. It’d be a great piece to decorate the room around … window treatments I posted above, a more neutral rug, etc.

I would wallpaper the ceiling and change the bedding and rug. I love the wall color.

Love the wallpaper idea, Friday! Great idea.

Forget my suggestions, Heather. Do that ^^^.

I would paint your floor a pretty sage green to compliment your walls. I would do white bedding. If you want more pattern, choose something smaller than the scale of the rug, which is lovely. I like your vintage pieces, but the little table at the window could use a new coat of paint in a deeper green drawn from your rug. Your rug is the star in the room!

Texture and mixing/laying will transform the daybed.

I’d move the lamp to the cream dresser, remove table under window, then add a pretty roman blind. They are easy to make and the cute window will be more appreciated, https://breakfastatkellies.com/how-to-make-diy-roman-shades/

Hopefully daybed can be centered with a round rug in front and try placing cream dresser flush against wall next to doorway.

Accessorize and if budget allows, a new ceiling light and a luggage rack in closet is a nice touch.

The pink and apricot go well together so I continued with that colour since you already have the area rug. I would move the furniture around and bring the daybed away from the corner more centered on the wall with the night table on the left and the chest in front of the window with a new lamp on both tables and a roman shade on the window. I suggest you simplify the coverlet and pillows for something similar to what is shown. Here's the look...

I love what you've done so far. I really do. I guess I agree that a bigger rug would be nice, but dang, I love the pattern and colors. I love love the apricot. What a cheery, lovely warm color! Great choice.

Wallpaper on the ceiling is an inspired idea! @ilikefriday and @Maureen coming in for the WIN (imho) with some great inspiration!

I hope you know that the world is getting back to a place where patterns can be layered, thank goodness. You're ahead of the curve, and what a lovely, cozy bedroom with wonderful architecture to inspire you.

I love your old light fixture (I’m assuming it’s original to the house) and hope you don’t change it. It adds a lot of character.

Tradewinds 6 Piece Quilted Daybed Set, Gold, Daybed (75" X 39") · More Info

Position the daybed in the middle of the knee wall. See if the chest and end table will fit on either side of it.

Cover as much of the floor as you can. Jute is a good option. This one is from World Market and is very affordable.

I also really appreciate the comments about moving the bed, laying the bed (and photos!), and the rug (laying rugs). I am so inspired! Thank you all so much! Truly appreciate your time and expertise. 😊
