These atmospheric rivers are quite something aren't they? I heard the gusts when I was out yesterday were 60 mph. Mammoth Lakes has had over 700 inches of snow!

I was just thinking yesterday this spring's desert Wildflower Bloom should be the best in decades! I wish I could make it to Death Valley to see theirs.

@sautesmom Sacramento - I received two huge Sultry Night bareroots from Springhill last year. I initially grew them up in large pots and were completely covered in blooms during the first flush - I was impressed. After planting it still bloomed but sporatically - probably busy putting down roots. The color was generally just magenta - I didn’t see much of the smoky purple as the blooms aged. The fragrance was mild to moderate - nothing too impressive but hopefully will be one of those that improve with age.

The Heavenly Scented I planted this spring is just starting to open. I’m disappointed with the fragrance, it has that soapy note Grande Dame, & Peach Swirl have. I shovel pruned them partly because I hate that smell, I swear I had a third rose that also had that smell, Sugar Moon possibly? The bloom is hardly open so I haven’t taken a picture, but I have a feeling it’s not going to be hanging around in my garden for too long. 😒

Heavenly Scented- to some.

The color started out coral, and is turning more pink as it opens, and very HT, single bloom per long stem. My plant is currently about 3’ x 2’. Other than the fragrance, it’s a pretty rose so far.

The first bloom is quite large 5”range, slightly smaller than its neighbor Larger than Life. The color seems to be more coral/pink, I was expecting it to shift more pink as it was opening. The rose is growing on me the more I look at it.

That Heavenly Scented looks terrific, Nick, now I think I should have went with her instead of Liv Tyler. I like the soap/perfume scent of Peach Swirl and Sugar Moon, too, so this would fit right in.

I've had Sultry Night planted in the garden for a few weeks. It came in a three gallon pot and was full of buds. Since planting, the rose bush has flopped several of it's branches onto the ground. All the flowers, and I mean every one, have turned to mush before opening completely. I would add we have had no rain for two months, so cool, wet weather isn't an issue. Basically the blooms are clustered together at branch ends. They all try to open at once, there's no room to do so, every blossom squashs into it's companion flower and just distorts, plus rots. Sultry Night rose is the biggest disappointment I have planted in years. I think it is HORRIBLE! The leaves are healthy, but the flowers, yuck! Plus, in color they appear a simple magenta, quite common and boring. There is a new branch growing that is pointing upwards, at least for now. We will see how that develops. It is too early to give up on the rose, yet. But so far, this rose is a complete dud! I hate it. I live in zone 8, on Vancouver Island.

I have Sultry Night and I love it. The fragrance got stronger during the last flush. I’m one of the few that don’t mind messy looking blooms. This one looks so pretty dancing in the evening light.

Any update on sultry night ? I saw it on instagram and it had so much depth . id love to know how its been for any of you !

Lily I wonder if we saw the same video! I just watched one that was literally breathtaking. I love Magenta and I love a light or silvery reverse and wanted to see more photos and feedback. The video I watched showed a deep cupped shape. its confusing because some of the photos I have found show a fluffy loose shaped bloom with no real structure and some of them looked cupped. they dont even look like the same plant.

My Twilight Zone has had significant blackspot and lack of vigor. I was considering a shovel prune to replace with SN but It needs to be a healthy bloomer!

i did message the account to ask where she purchased it . when i look at heirlooms offering , it looks cupped . everywhere else shows a more loose rose ,

I must get my hands on what she has ! haha

Yes, i was looking at photos, I’m not sure if you looked at HMF, but some of them also looked like hers! do you think the cupped look is still in the bud stage? That would explain why the shape looks different. but her photos are not that bright magenta which means they are probably slightly faded or aged which would mean not the bud stage. It’s confusing 😂. I like grafted bare roots and either Brecks or Spring Hill has the ”jumbo bare root” of Sultry Night. Tempting but I also want what she has too and not the other version. some of the other photos kind of look like Princess Anne’s shape. I don’t even know what that bloom style is called but it’s not my favorite.

I’d love to hear what she responds with where she got it!
