Similar here. Perhaps 19 degrees Sat. night. No pots here so I can't move mine inside. However, being more north than you are, this happens every couple of years. The daylilies don't mind too much, just stunted temporarily usually. They are well mulched. This will certainly be the end of the daffodils.

Maryl - We've got the same forecast here - four nights in the 20s, with one night at 22. I'm bringing in my two potted evergreens that are still alive and my seedlings in cups. I have buyers who want daylilies from me in early April. I doubt that will be happening now.

Same here--low of 20 this weekend. Most of our daffodils haven't bloomed yet so I think they will be ok. The star magnolias around town are beginning to flower so they will be frosted, but that's typical for us. March in Indiana can be cold so it's pretty typical for us.

It's always something in spring here. It wasn't two weeks ago I thought about starting to harden off my garaged daylilies as the weather was so temperate......Our Bradford Pears are at peak, so like the early Magnolias, I'm sure they will be damaged.......Debra: I lost all my evergreens that were outside this year and most of my sevs (Wayah Valley survived), Even some dormants didn't make it after that early freeze. I don't want to loose more, but if I do it's not like you or Nan with a business to run. Fingers crossed. Brad: Hopefully because you are further north your daylilies haven't advanced as much as mine and outside of a possible set back, you won't loose any. Now fingers crossed that this is the last of the hard freezes coming our way...........And BTW, St. Patricks Day is the start of our gardening season, so since it is today, HAPPY ST. We had one night in the 20s this week, but the following day was 50s. We have three nights of freeze forecast but daytime temps 40 to 60. the lilies do fine if the freeze only lasts a few hours but 24 or more below freezing is trouble. Mine are also lush and green but I am hopeful that the results will be like Tuesday and Wednesday's freeze: no damage. I haven't looked at the azaleas, but I know freeze is deaadly for them.

The news was predicting low 20s for Sat, Sun, but my phone says 18 - 19, ouch! i did not see issues from previous freeze this week. I have a few peonies with buds, worried about those more than daylilies.

I wouldn't be as concerned if the temperatures hadn't been predicted to be in the mid to low 20's for 2 nights in a row, with, I might add, a sharp Oklahoma wind from the north. I did get all my pots of daylilies in the garage thankfully......I'd be curious if anyone experiences any damage from these freezes, be it on daylilies or Peonies or Azaelas etc...........Fingers crossed for us all..................Maryl

We too will have overnight temps for Sat, Sun,Mon in low 20's. Daylilies are already coming back up but I have not done a final garden cleanup so leaving the dead foliage till midweek. Lots of rain here which is a good thing. Spent yesterday fertilizing most of the trees before rain moved in again. Still can't move anything till the weather settles down.

The newest forecast says a low of 21 tonight and tomorrow night. My azaleas won't bloom this year, and it will get my viburnum blooms. Daylily leaves yesterday already looked wilted. This will really put mine behind. We've had hard freezes in April several of the past years. It turns the leaves to mush, but they grow back out later and bloom just fine.

We dodged the bullet last night due to cloud cover and it only got down to 30. Tonight it will be clear so a good chance it may hit the low 20's as predicted. I've got other plants in the ground that were just starting to shoot up but not much I can do about them except to hope they have enough oomph to re-sprout.........Julia: Although it's tempting to start garden clean up early, it has paid off for me to leave most of it until the first of April in my area. These up and down temperatures are not unusual for us as the records show, just unpredictable.........Brad: I hope we are in a neutral pattern as well if that will translate into a cooler summer this year. Ours was so brutal last year that I'm seeing not only my own, but hundreds of dead Arborvitates all over town. Between the drought, the heat and the cold, 21/22 was not a good year for gardeners...............Debra: Sorry to hear about the wilted leaves. Will you give your daylilies extra nitrogen to produce more leaves when the weather stabilizes? .......I'm wondering how Kate is doing, especially with her roses which can suffer so much cane die back from freezes..............Maryl

Maryl, tonight will be the third night of a five day span of night temps below freezing. Most of my roses survived the Polar freeze earlier and now most have buds on them. So far they look OK. Azaleas will take a hit. I am worried about my peach tree-it has just begun blooming. Although we usually get some freezing temps this late, a whole week of freeze warnings is unusual for this time of year.

If you have a fan, Kate, turn it on your best tree and it should save the fruit. I have done that with daylilies, but didn't do it in time and know they won't survive the freeze. We are suppsed to have two more freeze nightm but as long as the days are above freezing, my daylilies will be fine: even Fernstone with it's buds should be okay.

Maryl - The daylilies in my raised beds have taken the biggest hit. Some of those have already been fertilized, and others haven't. I had planned to give them more fertilizer in April. I think sunshine and rain should get new leaves going over the rest of March.

Kate: From what I gather here the Azaleas seem to be the most cold sensitive. I presume it's because they are setting buds now or even flowering. We have a big park in Muskogee (of Okie from Muskogee song fame) dedicated to Azaleas and we hear about the freeze damage to them every year it seems. From the reports on this forum they seem to be the most sensitive to damage. Is it bud damage or the flowers only? We don't grow them around here due to our heavy Alkaline soil, so I don't know if they are in flower here or not...........Debra: That's interesting about the raised bed daylilies. Did you get all your pots inside? We all have a pot ghetto of some sort don't we-I've just taken it one step further-lol......It did get down to 24 last night, so I took a stroll to see if there was any damage out there. Some of my blooms on Tete e Tete daffodil were nipped, but the Ipheon flowers seemed fine. The foliage on my Lycoris Radiata (red spider lilies) was almost all killed back over winter, so flowering may be sparse this fall. The daylily foliage on those daylilies that were left outside seem to be fine. The night temperatures are going up the rest of the week, so I guess I will have to haul my pots back out of the garage. I bought a wonderful wagon from AM Leonard last year and it has been a godsend for hauling pots full of daylilies around. Much better then a wheel barrow. I highly recommend getting one if you have a need to haul pots................Maryl

Maryl, for my azaleas, it is both bud and flower damage, of course depending on how close the buds are to opening. The buds show so much of the flowers they can’t help but be impacted. The flowers immediately turn into brown mush. Hard frost here this morning following lowest temps of our five night freeze warnings.

Kate: re; Azaleas- Since I can't grow them I've never paid close attention to their buds in spring, so thank you for the information. From the little information I know about them, if they loose their buds they will not put out new ones.....Such a shame for the Azaela lovers that got hit with this cold snap.........They say this cold night weather is over here. I hope that it won't return...............Maryl
