Good luck with that! I never had any success with seeds but did manage an ongoing series of new plants from offsets.

Wish I had room in my current garden for a few of these but it's too tiny. They really are spectacular when in bloom. And pretty stunning in winter with those tall candelabras of seed pods. I just enjoy them vicariously at Heronswood when I visit :-)

I'd like to see cardiocrinum. It sounds like it takes a long time to bloom even from a bulb and then it dies. From seed it would take even longer.

I saw a picture of a miniature donkey and it made me want one so much but I think I'll settle for visiting someone else's donkey.

I've taken a about 50 and sown them in the greenhouse. More hopeful for those than the ones in the wild. We have several of the smaller variety that I grew from seeds from NARGS. They have spread a bit from seed, so it is possible.

They take about five years from seed to flower, and yes it is my understanding they die after flowering, but like most bulbs they put out offsets. This giant was purchased about 3 years ago and this was the first year it flowered. If it behaves as the smaller ones do, which now put up flowers every year, the offsets will hopefully keep the show going.

I meant to post a photo of this a ways back since I had these sprouting the day after i first read this post, but but… Theyre the smaller cardiocrinum but same cool seed pods, and of course i had to try a few. i think they took two years to sprout, does that sound normal? First year likely root, second year leaf sprout. Three years later maybe a few more came up and thats where we’re at lol

Its a six inch pot, so still a way to go.
