Cellular shade issue

i had top down bottom up cellular shades put in my bathroom. its impossible for them to be completely flush against the molding because the honeycomb material is centeted in the middle of the 2 inch metal rail. From the side of the window theres some light that indont like. Should i add a curtain and any ideas? should i do window film? i

what can i do?

It's a BATHROOM. Why the need to block any light?

Even with an OUTSIDE mount on the window, covering the moldings, there would be light seep at the sides.

You have privacy, and that is really all that is needed, unless a need to bathe and groom in a black out environment.

The outside mount, top of top molding, and outside edges moldings covered..... would look better, that much is certain : )

For complete privacy i wanted not to have any gap at the side.

I am also womdering if these shades were installed correctly. after the installer left i noticed theres a difference between the width on the ledt side of the header and on the right side. its not evenly divided so the rail is off to one side. Also does this cover enough of molding?

im wondering.. mind you as a garden peep.. not interior design...

if the honeycomb wouldnt trap moisture inside the pleats.. and in the long run.. not be the best use for this type of blind...

in my world.. warped as it is.. i would put a window film on the window itself.. making the solution with the blind.. moot... not mean anything...

relatively cheap.. easy to install.. and they used to be available at lowes ... ..

its not really the light escaping its your modesty .... the blind is not the solution ... imo

    back to the garden.. ken

Are the windows not deep enough to have inside mount? I don't think you need to worry about privacy. Just because there is some light escaping on the edges doesn't mean someone could see inside. Have you ever gone outside at night with the bathroom light on to see if you can see anything? If you also have these blinds in your bedroom and you don't like the light escaping on the edges because you like true blackout then the answer is to layer blackout drapes on top of the blinds.

Hi Maryann. I have the same types of blinds. Picture below. Mine were installed more inside the frame as shown. Can you put them inside the window frame a bit more? I like them. But maybe ill try a different style on our next house. If you'd like to check out our progress.

I really wanted an inside mount but the installer said oh that won't work! So I ended up with his suggestion for an outside mount.

I will probably put on some window film on that bathroom window and in the bedroom where we have these just add some drapes.

Just affirming that yes, moisture with cellular shades will be a hot mess. (Ask me how I know!) I would not use them in bathrooms for that reason, and we now keep all of ours cracked at least two inches to prevent mold/mildew growth, so if you do keep them, a gap is an asset, not a liability. You don't want them completely flush. (When we got new windows in our bathrooms, I got them with obscure glass--one in both sashes, one just in the bottom sash--and have found that to be good enough privacy in those rooms. The film would get you to a similar end.)

For complete privacy i wanted not to have any gap at the side.

who is going to peek in through the sides? even if they could, (which they can't) what could they possibly see? the towel bar? the corner of the wall? eyeball sight doesn't see around objects! someone would have to press their nose against the glass, turn their heads sideways and hope you stand right there at the gap, flat against that wall.

seriously? I mean, it's just silly. Go stand outside and see what you can see.

    window film is a waste.

pull up the blinds and lets see why you couldn't do an inside mount

I had cellular blinds, inside mount, in my bathroom for nearly 20 years before I replaced them. No problems with them getting moldy. I also found that they can be un-mounted and washed in the bath tub, by they way. Oh…and if they are a bit “off” center either way, there are ways to slide them back and forth a bit. I had to do this with a shade that was re-mounted (badly) by a painter. I found a video online from the manufacturer who showed how to install and take down the blind. It also showed how to adjust it. Good luck!
