kitchen island options

Which island would you put in your house?

a 5’2” x 10’ jumbo slab with seating for six
a 4’x 10’ slab with a dining table (40”x87”x 30” high) that tucks under the island 4” and then can be relocated during major holidays to match up with a duplicate dining table to seat 22 people and allow the island to be the buffet server.

I voted for 1, but I kind of agree on neither. And I'm confused about what's going on here.

Neither; I can't really visualize #2 - how will the dining table fit under a 4' wide island? It would have to be really skinny, like 3-1/2 feet which seems like an odd size. As for #1, unless you are super tall it will be hard to reach across and clear/clean a 5-foot plus island.

The dining table right next to the dining table is so redundant. And seats for 6 at an island? Again, just take 3 steps and sit at the dining table. I would seat 4 at the island and use the extra 2 seat space for storage.

Neither; I don't need island seating for six. I certainly wouldn't do option 2. I prefer an island for cooking, not eating, and I so I'd prefer no overhang.

The table is being put along the long side of the island. Click onto the little pictures.

IMO neither but I never like an island so wide I can't clean all the way across and as for the extra table I have mine along the wall under an overhang on my never used part of my deck we bring it in when we need to seat 20+ I think siding part of the table under the island will just look weird and then no space for stools at all . What is the table made of and what is the top ? We have a table base that folds uo and alarge piece of glass tha is the same size as outr table inside . That glass has stood outside for 15 yrs on that deck and we live in Canada where the winters are cold and the summers hot . Takes 2 of us to carry the glass but not a big deal. The bonus is for us is we also have a large outdoor dining space so the table is used a lot more outside than in

How much and what type of seating do you need on a daily basis and what type and how much seating do you need for large family gatherings. How often do you host the family gatherings?

I live by myself but have over 30 people in my extended family. Family gatherings at my home built for 1 are challenging, but I only host family gatherings at my home about once every other year.

The problem with the table next to the long side of the island is that it’s right next to the dining room table. Just sit at the dining room table.

Your island should run parallel to the stove and perpendicular to the sink countertops.
