Pretty home! If it were me, I’d probably remove the lamps from the buffet, move the plant to the left end, and place a tray of cookies on the right end. Maybe the tray can cover some of the scratches. If you can‘t cover the scratches with the cookies or with some sort of wood treatment (Howards Restore a Finish?), either ignore them or sure, use a runner. Who cares if some people think they’re out of style? I happen to like them and I use what I like.

I don’t recommend lamps in a window area…keep area in front if window open..you have a fun home..but the buffet needs a wall than the lamps will look amazing…I don’t see any mirrors this would be a great place for one over the buffet…it is close to the dining room too.

I liked the two lamps and the bowl of greenery with the drapes closed. I think runners or doilies or other coverings are fine on furniture. Could you set up the buffet with food/drinks for the evening? Perhaps after you could come back with more pictures of the room and people could give more ideas for after your night of hosting.

You can use a decorative bowl that you own and transplant an orchid with some moss.

Buffet’s new location: one lamp and add the two pieces of art horizontally or vertically but further apart. Use for entertaining purposes, which will cover the marks as well. Add a plant for now on the light chest.

If not enough time, just leave room as is and add flowers at window.

HomeInteriors- I tried it on the wall you are referring to and it's too deep. You end up with too little space for the chairs. It is a long, narrow room. I plan on replacing the darn thing but havent gotten a round tuit.

Which ever one fits the best. Then put that small console table by the window. Use both for staging refreshments for your meeting. I would keep the lamps on the large buffet but put away the single lamp on the console table and place a small bouquet. i am not sure what those items are in the above pic or where to place them

Beverly - I wish it could be a seating area. The issue is that the area in front of the window seems to be a natural walkway. There is only about 20-30" of depth to work with unless the entire flow pattern can be changed (not saying it could not but I'm unsure how to make that happen).

Your window might be better suited for seating .

alternatively, you keep the console on one of the walls and put some temporary seating for your party with your folding chairs by the window with this so there is somewhere to set a drink.

after the party, you can work on reconfiguring the space better.

I can see switching your dining area and swivel chair area. the cozy window seat lends itself to a reading and conversation area, leaving a lovely dining area by the fireplace. Then the placement of the buffet against the wall will be practical.

Hu- You are right I'm certain of it! Somehow I've become obsessed and seem to be unable to walk, let alone run, especially FAST! I REALLY appreciate your concern! But no real angst. To me figuring this out is like putting a puzzle together. And I learn new stuff (many facepalms). If I didnt enjoy it I wouldnt bother. The reward comes when a room is functional AND attractive. Crazily hard for me to accomplish. Like a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle (which I do runaway from and fast).

Don’t buy more lamps yours are very nice..ok move buffet to this wall….put open black console under window with your ottomans and flowers in big bowl on top keep it simple…

The window is very nice...enough trim to make it interesting.

What makes the buffet not work in front of the window is there is nothing over it.

Shot in the dark: what if you pulled the curtains so panels fall behind the console.

Now hang art. You could us wire and hang from curtain rod.

Don’t run buy stuff just because you have an event tomorrow. Buy in haste, repent at leisure. Nothing is soooo horrible that it needs to be replaced now. Just a little moving around with what you have.

I did it!Moved the ugly buffet to the wall. It fits but it's a little tight between the sofa & the buffet. I can't move the buffet any further along the wall because of the vent.

I also moved the white oak cabinet into the bdrm

Now what do I do with this space?

Is this enough space? There is 35" between the edge of the buffet and the corner of the sofa.

It’s more important to just make people feel welcome, and it’s a festive occasion. So I would put out a few, sealed “Welcome” treats on a tray. That’s it.

You could keep a couple of the chocolate boxes on the buffet, too.

Silver lamps, and I am with Julie on the console. Maybe console back where it was. If you prefer it under window, put the white ottomans under it. If you don’t already have art to put over the buffet, don’t stress, just put out refreshments and enjoy the night!

@freedomplace1. She asked for help styling, because she didn’t like it how she had it. So, we helped her find a better plan.

Yep the silver lamps..the slender lampshade looks great! And they have a art deco feel to them like the buffet….Ok now what accessories and art do you have if any..we can play around.

One idea to ponder..I would put that blue and yellow art on the small wall next to the window where the stacked art is and put the stacked art over the buffet. The proportions will be really nice.

Hi All! Everything went fine and there were many compliments about the house. I feel I did everything reasonable to provide an attractive home where people can gather comfortably. Lots of chocolate helps!!!! Thanks to everyone who provided comments! I'm definitely in full blown "decorative" mode now with all of your ideas! I do have some more questions about lamps but I'll start a new thread for that.

@ Home Interiors with Ease I decided to put the stacked art back where it was because it "echoes" a wonderful Mangleson on a nearby wall. I do like the stacking idea tho so I think I'll look for a different "stacker" . Did you mean diptych ?

Abby if not using the stacked wall art from the other wall….I wound shop for 1 much large piece of art for over the buffet..vertical….go big!
