How to do reading light for bed in center of room and no nightstands?

To better enjoy our backyard view and not wake up to a view of the toilet, we’ve put our bed in the center of the bedroom. Baskets that slide under the bed are working great for books/eyemask (there’s not enough room for a nightstand). Trying to figure out a good way to still have reading lights. Any ideas? Hubby didnt like the idea of battery puck lights.

    Get a couple book lights.

Other dumb idea could be a console table or chest of drawers behind the headboard and table lamps on it. Battery operated if you have to. Or there's the ceiling light fixture approach.

Is there a reason for the bed to be in the middle of the room?

Perhaps you can post a picture of the entire room so that we can see what the bed looks like in the room, all see is the back of the headboard...

Use rugs to cover lamp cords?

Read on your iPhone or iPad and you don’t need a reading light.

Get a light that works through a smart system so you can turn on and off in bed through an App. My lights are on the Lutron system so i can operate comfortably in bed as necessary.

Get one if those small lights that clip to your book or a larger one that clips to the bed. You can get these battery operated so you don’t have to deal with wires

The photo is about as good as I can get since we’re gone while the house is getting painted… but here is the floorplan and the bed is a CA King. The closet doors are bifold, so they stick out a bit (and honestly don’t get closed), leaving only about 2’ on each side of the bed.

I’m interested in reading lights (as opposed to an e-reader or book light, but good suggestions!) so we can have a low, dim light option for feeding/changing our newborn. We currently have sconces hanging from command hooks on the posts, which works but looks a bit tacky.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll try a few and see what looks good!

Seeing the size of you bedroom on plan, I don't understand why you would want to float the bed, the room would feel so much larger if the headboard was against the wall as shown below...

Consider creating fun ambience with accent lamps, string lights (on the canopy or wall), wall mounted lights, up lights in the corner, a ceiling cove. Any of these can be on timers or motion sensors.

Use cord covers for wall sconces:

For the floating bed, put a console table or sideboard or long dresser behind the bed and place lamps on the table.

But, (there is always a ’but’), the floating bed is not the best arrangement for good sleep. Call it feng shui or call it human instinct, but having the bed face away from the entry to the room is uncomfortable and will disturb your sleep.

lisedv’s floorplan makes sense. To help with the issue of the view of the toilet, get in the habit of closing the bathroom door before you go to sleep. Also, put a beautiful piece of art on the wall between the bathroom door and entry door to enhance the ’view’ of that side of the room.

    Hi,

You can hang single pendants from the ceiling.
