There should be recessed lighting in the kitchen. Then you could get rid of the track light over the island and have better lighting throughout. What is the closest fixture in the picture for (the one that is squiggly)? Frequently light fixtures are made in collections so you can buy different size fixtures for different areas that coordinate. Or keep the finish the same, or if they have some common feature even if they're from differen manufacturers they can also work together. Did you choose any of the ones you currently have? Are any of them a good illustration of what you like? The one over the dining table should be hung lower. The rule of thumb is 36" from the tabletop.

Look at the distribution of pot lights in the picture below. They're placed to illuminate the counter. You don't need to have pendants over an island, although they're common. Especially when they're going to compete with another fixture nearby it's OK to do without. I have a recessed light over my island and it's fine. I wouldn't put in a pendant or pendants when I go to remodel. I have a kitchen table nearby. When you see pictures of kitchens without pot lights chances are they have been photoshopped out.

Hi, thanks for the feed back. I agree recessed lighting would be ideal but not in the budget. I’m going for a bohemians theme ( haven’t don’t anything as of yet) I like wood beaded fixtures, rattan type lights, trying to get lots of texture but don’t want to overwhelm the space (like it currently is).

I bought these at Homegoods a few years ago. I have one in my living room and one in my dining room... in the same view, similar to this. $200 a piece.

The first thing I would do is convert the one in the foreground to a waffer style "recessed light" from lowes. you dont need a hanging fixture there. The light in the kitchen does not appear to be over the island, so if its not in the budget for recessed, I would just leave that light you have now, since getting something over the island would be adding junction box.

I would focus on drawing to the dining light. go to a 2nd hand store and buy a chandelier and spray paint it.

Unify the living and dining room with the same non-statement fixture. Then have a statement over the island.
