When you say sprouted, how far developed is it? I wouldn’t split it if it has open leaves. How about a picture?

Can get pic tomorrow, no open leaves a couple inches out of the ground. It has not been doing grat and never split and I planted it 8 years ago.

Since it is not doing "great" anyway might as well cut it in half right now with a shovel.
