Nickel can vary more than chrome so get a sample if you can.

In my experience, it's rarely noticeable unless they are right next to each other. Light fixtures especially can get away with being slightly off because they are necessarily lit differently than other things in the room (or the lights are off so you can't see anything well).

Have you checked RH and Rejuvenation? They have (or used to have) multiple finish options for fixtures and usually (or used to usually :P ) have chrome.

There is typically a warm undertone to nickel that you don't see in chrome

We have polished nickel light fixtures and hardware with chrome faucets in both of our bathrooms and in our kitchen. I don't think anyone notices or cares. (I prefer chrome for faucets in general, both because it's typically less expensive and because it's easier to mix and match brands since the look of nickel varies more than chrome, in my experience.)

Yes, it is fine if the sconce finish is different than the sink hardware. It is nice if the sink and the shower/tub hardware match if possible.

One of my kids did this recently and it looks great.

I've got both finishes in my master bath and it looks fine. You will not notice the modest difference after the first week. And the fashion police have quit giving tickets for this anyway. ;-)

I would avoid it if possible. Polished nickel has a warm tone to it, and it's a "living" finish, meaning that it will oxidize over time. The difference between it and polished chrome (which has a cool, almost blue-ish look) will intensify over time. That would bother me, but if you are ok with it, then go ahead.

If you aren't ok with it, then use sconces in a higher contrast finish, like oil-rubbed bronze, black, copper or even brass. Then it won't look like you tried to match it but failed.

Either change the faucet to polished nickel, or select a different finish altogether for sconces. It WILL look "off" ......

Matte black and chrome look good. There ARE white and chrome sconces that are very stylish. Just know that polished nickel has a warm, slightly green undertone. It is also higher maintenance in a faucet, needing a dry off . Meaning pick your poison.

You can, but I wouldn't. I'd stick with basic chrome for several reasons:

- If you go with all chrome, no one will ever notice that you didn't go with the more expensive metal ... but if you mix the two, people will notice that your metals are mismatched.

- You can mix metals, but it's tricky -- and these two are "too close" and are likely to look like an accident rather than a style choice.

- Chrome is always available, so when (not if) you need to replace an item down the road, you'll always be able to match chrome.

I had to do the same because there were almost no sconces that would fit in my tiny vanity nook and the one I found didnt come in chrome. Such is life. They are going in this week and I guarantee so long as nobody from Houzz discussion boards come to visit, it will be fine.

Also, are the sconces returnable? If so, order them and look at them in person along with your hardware and faucet.

IMO stop stressing about everything matching there is something to be said for a little unmatching in your life. I have polished nickel faucet and a stainless bath bar in one bathroom andit looks just fine .

WELL......it's not like there aren't any in chrome?

Hard to say .until someone, and that's the op, posts what the bath (look, and feel ) is going to be.

Floor in powder room is Carrera marble, vanity will be white with light colored (rolling fog) quartz top. Walls will be painted SherwinWilliams Creamy. Vanity hardware will be handles for the doors, and knobs for the drawers Top Knobs TK323UM and TK320UM in chrome. Moen Brantford 2-handle widespread faucet in chrome will be mounted on the vanity top. I want to convey an elegant, timeless feel. Am also considering in the future, wallpapering with a deep, rich color to add a little drama. I want the lighting to be somewhat traditional or transitional, rather than modern. Perhaps it can even add a little glamor to the scene.

Have you looked at Pottery Barn bathroom fixtures? I used their chrome sconces in two of my bathrooms and am very happy with the quality and look. I agree with those that say polished nickel and chrome are too close and look like a near miss.
