so first pic is the whole thing i feel like i should trim the top quite a bit? when i first got it, it almost died, lost alot of leaves/branches you can tell from the pic, has alot of tallness to it and has some short growth comming out. nothing in the middle of the plant quite. i never have trimmed a plant before but i assume i should trim alot of the height so it can grow more fuller from the bottom/middle of plant?

also 2nd pic with the red lines. that whole middle stump has died/dried out completly no new growth comming out of it at all. should i mess with it at all like cut it down or just leave it alone? also what is that brown at the top of the stump where it stopped growing is that the plants attempt to heal itself or cover up the damage that it had?

are you in some kind of hurry .. i had one of these for a decade.. and never pruned it..

the number one rule of pruning.. is to remove all damaged or dead parts.. so off goes the old dead trunk ...

after that.. i would put away the pruning shears.. and think about it again in about 12 months...and then still probably do nothing ...

you can always cut more off later .... you cant not glue parts back on because you got carried away with pruning...

if it can go outside in full bright shade for summer.. it will probably benefit from such .. otherwise i might be concerned it might not get enough light if thats it usual location .. never put a houseplant in full sun.. especially if its a large plant for the pot.. it might just dry out too fast ...

lets try not to love it to death ..... just water it properly...
