I wouldn't put the blue there. Once you fill it up you won't be able to see too much of the background color, but white is a better background for arts and crafts.

Tile backsplash in there or stick wallpaper. Try a battery power light fixture. Maybe turn it into a breakfast area for the family. Sitting room like a family or living room? Make like movie night area with popcorn machine, snacks. 😄

tile the backsplash. then use 3M strips to hang one medium/large piece of art (I like the bunny painting, but maybe give it a matte and larger frame). or cluster all three. once you place a few items on the countertop, it will look full enough.

if you can't afford to do tile there, find a wallpaper that matches the grey tile. something that has a simple look to it (no busy patterns).

Is there an outlet behind one of those frames? Hopefully! Add a small table lamp and then a large square art statement (and then layer in the smaller frames on top). But you do need some light there I think!

I think a bulletin board is best for this kind of rotating art display…this way you can move them around easily..even overlap them a little… putting the new ones in a more dominant spot ….the frame can be painted a color ..or use a really nice decorative gold frame..to accentuate the “art”..the process can include a little ladder …if the children want to participate in the installation

I would go with shelves.

KIds art is my fave so I would not do shelves since some of the ieces might be alrger than what fits on a shelf. We did this with magnets on our fridge when our kids were growing up we kept them upi for a week then they were put in a box for each child to save if they wanted to. So I think I would do maybe a wire at the top with clips then no matter what they bring home it can be hung. I would paint it the same as the cabinet then when there is no art it still looks good and you can always hang another piece of art to fill in between art contributions.

No blue...it is a kitchen cabinet color and the built-ins are not in the kitchen.

I'd add cork the same color tone as your flooring. Then, display your kids art in a gallery-wall format.

I live the ideas of making the space functional in addition to an art display. So snack bar, popcorn area on movie night, etc etc. something that likely changes out easily but makes the space more useful than just displaying the great kids art

How about wall paper, like a blue grass cloth, or a natural grass cloth? Something with texture, but won't distract from the shelves of photos. Personally I don't like tile if it's not a backsplash, too expensive and permanent.

Firstly, let me just say that I think you've done a beautiful job with your kitchen choices! I would add natural wood shelves to that blank space and leave the back wall of it white. The wood wouldn't have to match the floor color as long as it has the same warm tone - no gray or washed out wood. Maybe a natural edge on the shelves if that's not too rustic for you. I'd also maybe switch out the hardware in the "sitting room" so that it's not so matchy-matchy to the kitchen and make it more like it's its own room. I think you could even go with gold or aged brass tone hardware since the wood floor is warm. That having been said, I'd love to see the other sides of the sitting room.

I love what you've done so far. I would try painting the wall a gray shade similar to the tile backsplash color, add lighting to illuminate the artwork, and possibly add something sculptural (vase? candle?) in blue and wood.

How about a mirror, with a couple glass shelves and lines shining from above?

I like the idea of one low 5-7" deep shelf about the height of the outlet on the right.  Then you can prop different sizes of art on the shelf and still use the surface of the cabinet top.  I also like the suggestion on a textures wallpaper behind but it doesn't have to be a dark blue.  Tile would make it feel more kitchen like and matchy matchy which I wouldn't suggest.  When you don't have a lot of art to display you can decorate with seasonal objects and one large mirror.  Good luck!

I would do shelves and make the counter a coffee bar. Put cute mugs , etc on the shelves. Find another place for kid art.

This shelf idea could work well for you. Some light wood shelves and I personally like the dark blue background (either paint or maybe a grasscloth for texture) and think it would complement your cabinets and contrast with artwork. Otherwise you could do a lighter shade of blue.

I think the most cohesive thing would be to repeat the tile you have, or do the blue. I've been collecting a lot of ideas for kitchens, and you want it to be cohesive, but what you like. I don't think adding another element, like the cork (wrong tone) or wallpaper will give a cohesive look to your new, beautiful kitchen. Shelves in front of the tile, or the suggestion of 3m hangers, or even thin wire with lights they have these days, can make your kids art shine and feel special. Don't listen to others who say not to hang it. If you keep it from looking cluttered and you all like it, then ignore everyone else. They grow up fast!

Perhaps the cork could be thick enough to push pin the kids art, unless thats too messy a look for you. You could also hang the art is light plastic frames to contrast. And add some light. I’m not a good decorator but I have hung framed ’modern art’ finger paint and pastel squiggles by my grandkids that looked really nice.

There is a light switch there. A little lamp, maybe a candlestick lamp, would look lovely there!

No room is too small for artwork. In fact, sometimes small spaces are the perfect places to display things on the walls .
