I don't have photos, but there are a couple ways to tackle this.

Both require a good sanding.

sand, clean and seal, many thin layers of finish, complete drying and light sanding between coats.

You can also, Sand, Oil, and Wax, then buff to a nice natural finish.

I like a nice oiled finish on butcher block it is easy to fix if something gets on there you don't want and if at some later date you actully want it near food then no problem It looks like it is in good shape now so why refinish it for a desk. If it needs sanding then sand and use a food safe oil

Depends are using it to make food on or as a dining table? If using top for food baking would sand it down use regular mineral oil. You stain or paint the legs. You have keep putting the mineral oil on when looks dry or water doesn't bead. If just for eating stain it whatever color you like and seal it.

Husband just renovated our kitchen and got butcher block counter top prep with this product to seal it. 3 coats wait 1 hour each coat and then left the last coat overnight and buffed it in.

Home office. So yeah, strip, sand, stain (or not), and clearcoat.

It looks like rubberwood (AKA parawood). If so, do some googling for specifics for that wood. It should be a nice color when it's naked.

Look on YouTube for videos to illustrate how to do it. Are you sure that's actual butcher block? those little pieces might indicate a veneer instead.

This is what the top looks like. These photos are from the person I bought it from on Marketplace yesterday. It's currently taken apart and I can't get to it to take more photos right now.

Well it's not oak or maple which are typically used in making butcher block. I'm guessing this might be rubberwood
