Lungworts are flowering in our garden, and of course Helebore.

Pulmonaria (lungwort) blooming here too. The last time I looked, the hellebores weren’t in bloom yet, but should be soon.

Primulas, hellebores, brunnera, epimediums, Euphorbia polychroma, creeping phlox, Iberis sempervirens (candytuft), basket of gold (Aurinia saxatilis) and other rockery plants, lungwort, trilliums......

And Doronicum.

Rockcress and anemone too

wallflowers, chaenomeles, forsythia, daphne, auriculas (and other primula), violets, celandines, aconites, anemones (blanda, coronaria, nemorosa) lunaria, aubretia, thrift are all flowering in the woods and allotment (along with an array of species tulips and other small blue bulbs such as chionodoxa, muscari, leucojum etc.). Very soon, the autumn sown hardy annuals will be in bloom, along with lathyrus verna, hepatica, lily-of-the valley, grass-leaved buttercup, forget-me-nots, pulsatilla, saxifrage, anthriscus and smyrnium, which will be in flower by the end of April..

Virginia bluebells! Epimedium, Helleborus both creeping phlox and woodland phlox. Many if my dianthus are either blooming or just about to start blooming. Geum is lovely too.

Other than the two I mentioned we also have some brunnera, just barely getting going and I've seen two epimedium flowers. With all the different climates we all bloom a bit differently.

Wow, @woodyoak zone 5 southern Ont., Canada, my pulmonaria is barely poking through the ground, and yours is already flowering?? Yikes, I hope mine is okay. I have six, and I see no signs of life from one of them.

Primrose are super cheap in the spring so I generally buy a few each spring to add color. They are such hardy little things and seems to tolerate the cold well. I have them coming up for years to follow being then are a perenial in Zone5 So many colors to choose from too Some of mine were coming up through the snow

Another perennial that will bloom before the late daffs and tulips fade is golden groundsel. It is native throughout the Eastern US.

All of my Pulmonaria tend to start flowering before the new foliage "fully" emerges. I've had the first flowers showing up on mine for a week or so already here in upstate NY (zone 5b).

completely forgot about clematis, but there are some great early flowering (alpina, macropetala, cirrhosa, montana - think armandii and the New Zealand evergreens too tender for you, Debra)

@sah_upstate4 (zone 5b - NY), mine is just now emerging; I have ”Shrimps on the Barbie”. They’re about 25ft from the street….makes me wonder if they’re suffering from salt spray or possibly getting peed on by neighbor dogs…

I took a picture from the window this morning of the pulmonarias blooming under the white redbud tree. These pulmonarias don't seem to be variegated, although others in the garden (later bloomers) are so these may be seedlings of some sort....

Does anyone think we have very congested bloom time this year? I usually have succession of blooms but this year just all came at same time. Kinda weird.

I'll add Bergenia cordifolia. Although... my Aquilegia canadensis and A. caerulea 'Kristal' are blooming immediately after the daffodils. So that's pretty early?

Linda, I had the opposite happen? I have crocus and quince foliage.... with no or few blooms. Weird year. It's like it warmed up too quickly? We really did. Our average last frost date is April 15, and it was something like the last week of March. I didn't write it down.

Has anyone mentioned pasque flower yet? It's been blooming for me here in zone 5 for about 2 weeks now. It's pretty, tough, can self-seed if desired, and makes nice seed heads. It doesn't bully other plants nearby either. Mine is new so the clump is small.

Roses and Baptisia, Hosta Happy Dayz, more hostas, and azalea. Did I mention more hostas?

I didn't see arabis mentioned yet, it's a very early one here for me zone 4! I only get the white one, it's very pretty

Debra, yes, my garden is quite awake. Some of the late risers are just coming up, but everything else is well into spring. Butterfly weed, even lantana are in leaf.

Lindalana, in your second post—-what are the 2 flowers, yellow and a bell shaped one?

The yellow is a Primula. The bells are Fritillaria meleagris.

Debra, look up Van Engelen for small bulbs, most are ephemeral and no care at all.

Primroses are all grown from seed.

Coral bells add color!

I have lots of hellebores and bleeding heart right now. For bulbs, I go to Brent and Becky's website--they have many types of bulbs (some you can't find elsewhere). I know that my botanical garden orders from them. They even ship bulbs that have been in cold storage for those of you down south.
