Quick fix for worn softwood floors

I have a relatively small area in my house with worn out, sad looking wood floors. I believe they’re pine. The finish has started wearing away in places. At some point I’ll hire someone to sand down and refinish the floor, but can anyone think of a way to make them look more presentable in the meantime? A product that would be good to use? I don’t know if the finish on it now is oil or water based. I’ve considered Briwax or a gel stain. I know some of you will say I should just refinish them the right way the first time, and while I agree that that’s the goal, I’ve been staring at them for 5 years already while they haven’t made it to the top of the priority list.
