I just had LVP installed on my stairs. The installer trimmed off the subfloor nosing from my formerly carpeted stairs, and installed a molded stair nose piece that is only about 1/4" deep. The depth of my stair treads has been reduced by over and inch because of this, and I find them awkward to walk on. Then I looked up building codes for stairs in my state, and it looks like a minimum .75" of nosing is pretty much a universal requirement. I called the flooring company that did the job and explained the issue. They claim that this is how they do all their LVP stair noses and that is how they are supposed to be installed. I'm a little confused as to why flooring manufacturers would produce stair noses that don't follow building code. Or why the installer would think it was ok to reduce the depth of my stair treads so much. I really don't want to pay them the remaining balance of the cost of the install until this is resolved. What should I do?
