Best Warm White

last modified: 3 years ago

Yes I have looked at old post... BUT I'm getting ready to repaint all of the living spaces in my home. It's very open & airy. Right now it's painted Clay Beige, which I love, but it's too dark. I'm ready to go much lighter. I'm not opposed to a greige, or any other really light neutral. What's hot right now?

Here's the kitchen, loft with new carpet & my hickory wood throughout the main level. The new paint would be all over the main level & up into the loft area.

Oh goodness me please post photos of your existing space so we can see your flooring, soft furnishings, etc. it doesn’t matter what’s hot right now it matters what’s right for you. Benjamin Moore Clay Beige - yes?

Well it depends on the lighting in your space and other features with which the color will play, but my favorite is Farrow & Ball Pointing. Creamy white without turning yellow or greigey.

I wouldn't pick a shade of white based on what's hot right now. I would paint large swatches and put them on different walls so you can see how the angles and lighting based on time of day makes each one look. How a white looks in one house, let alone one wall, can change significantly based on several factors.

Trust me... I know the process. I think I had 11 swatches painted everywhere when I went with BM Clay Beige 6 years ago. All of my lighting is a cool 4K & my house is very well lit with many windows & a two story entry. I just want some ideas to start with. In the rest of the house I have Worldly Gray in basement, Pewter Revere in master suite, Owl Gray & Wild Aster in kids rooms & Sea Salt in 2 bathrooms.

Thank you for including the photos. Honestly, I think what you have now looks great. However, if you are looking for something lighter and you don't want to repaint the basement then Shoji white is a great off white that complements the Worldly Gray and would go with your main floor. If you don't have undercabinet lighting then that would help. A small lamp tucked in a corner (or multiple corners) under the upper cabinets looks great too.

Ivory Lace is also one to look at. It's what we did throughout our whole house about 7 years ago and coincidentally is the go to white for Studio McGee's recent spec home.

And the best way to evaluate paint is not to paint swatches everywhere - it's to have large paint samples that are moveable that you put against a white paper to isolate the color against the areas you are considering it for. When you paint swatches directly on the wall - the new color interacts visually with the existing wall color and it effects how you see it. The samplize samples really only work well if put on a foam core moveable board. This way you can see the color with your carpet - which is the main thing you need to coordinate with.

Thinkdesignlive— I would love to see pix of your Ivory Lace rooms if you are willing to post them. I’ve been pondering that color for 3 months now!

With the greys else where in you house would you consider a cool with almost no undertone? I have dark cabinets and doors in my kitchen I prefer cooler whites so went with Bm pure white with a slight blue under tone that played well with the greys in my marble and other rooms in the house.

HD - this is just now - morning light at different parts of the house - no interior lights on. I tried to find shots with some bright white in them so you can see how ‘deep bone white’ Ivory Lace is. We painted the trim to match to make it a cleaner look. As for this post - I do think their original color looks fine with their conditions (and they should test all paints like previously noted)…

One more…and again, with this dilemma they have wtw carpet and that color/tone is what drives their particular color. I like off beat color combos and have wood floors so this color worked for me (and for this sofa).

Youre using BM Clay Beige OC 11. consider using a coordinating color, so that the decorating choices still look good. try BM Dove Wing OC 18. it will definitely brighten things up.

You’ve used Clay Beige and you want to update and brighten. Your best bet is to use a coordinating color from the same collection. That way all of your interior decor will still look at home with your new background color choice. Consider BM Dove Wing. Good luck with the refresh!

I love the idea of Dove Wing. The undertones of Clay Beige work really well in my space. I'm also looking at Shoji White.

Thinkdesignlive— thanks so much for the pix— Ivory Lace looks beautiful in your beautiful home!

Try BM Soft Chamois also - it is similar to SW Shoji White.
