I love the pendant spacing in this Studio McGee kitchen. I’m assuming there’s a third pendant out of view.

I am building a home with the same size island in my kitchen. There’s a sink in the middle of my island. I’ve decided on two pendants each 16 inches wide. Here’s a link to what they look like. Not sure yet how low they will hang.

That is the size of a full hall bathroom. The problem is the continent's width requires a very wide pendant to light the whole surface. Wider than tall. The depth is too much for that to happen with most fixtures. Part of it will be a blazing hot spot, and part of it will not be lit well. To be lit well and evenly, will require additional recessed lights in addition to mostly decorative pendants. You may end up with shadows on your work surface unless this is very carefully planned.

How wide is your island?

Also I'd move the sink off center so you have more prep space on one side to really lay . stuff out.

Yes, move the sink to give more continuous space for prep. Also so you won't be back to back with anyone cooking at the stove, and so you don't look like you are on the Washing Dishes Show.

My island is 10'*4' and I have two large pendants with 9' ceilings. I have a similar layout and also offset my sink and it was the best thing I could have done. My dishwasher is at the end and sink next to it. I have 5' of prep space.

Thanks for sharing, @anj_p. Do you happen to have pictures? I am considering moving my sink, I'm back and forth though as I am such a fan of symmetry - any visuals would help!

Also, do you feel the large pendants light the island ok? I'm now a bit worried after reading the above comments.

@User we are adding more recessed lighting in the kitchen (the current lights are not strategically placed at all) Do you have any input as to where they should be placed to balance out the lighting above the island with large pendants?
