Back around 10+ years ago it was quite common to see exchanges between hostaholics of named varieties and it typically involved a trade of at least 3 or more because of the cost of mailing. Folks would make a list available of what they had to spare and what they were looking for. Over the years I have participated a number of trades and the vast majority of what I acquired that way I still have. It was a nice way to expand two collections: mine and the trader's. With the increasing presence of HVX most folks that used to do exchanges have stopped and the whole process has fallen out of favour.

A request for 'a bright lime green hosta' isn't likely to generate much if any interest. Your best bet to acquire plants at less than nursery prices is to look for driveway sales or gardening club sales in your area. And of course you could try Facebook....
