Either could work.

I would stop it under the hood.

Personally I don't like a column of tile floating above the hood without a cabinet boundary.

@chispa that’s my thoughts too. Our tiler prefers to take it to the top of cabinet or the ceiling, but our cabinets don’t extend to the ceiling and I don’t want our range hood to be the focal point of the kitchen.

I'll assume you're getting a chimney style hood? If so, have the tile go to the ceiling or stop at the bottom of the hood.

I wouldn't use a chimney hood in that space between cabinets. I'd get a stainless steel or insert hood in cabinetry that spans the entire space and end the tile at the bottom of the hood.

@Diana Bier Interiors, LLC no going back on the range hood now. It’s already been purchased and delivered. This is what we went with, so we are working with what we got. It’s 36” wide and there is 42” of space between the wall cabinets over the range.
