Wonderful! So glad youirs are started! Martin Blondeel has put out 2 more scapes, but they aren't growing fast. Other early ones look very good and should be scaping pretty soon! My iris are pretty much on schedule I think. Usually they are in full bloom the 1st week of May, and I think that is right on target. So excited to see things starting! Roofers are here, so I may lose blooms. They promised to be careful, but accidents happen.

4 Roofs? Wow. Make sure they are using quality shingles. The guys that did mine used lifetime guaranteed ones from Lowes. No more expensive than others.

Kay - The first year I had The Pink Shabang it bloomed and rebloomed well. Then last year nothing. I was afraid I had it planted where it couldn't get enough sun, but I also had about 15 that didn't bloom last year. I guess it was the lack of rain.

Nancy - I'm glad you're getting your roof redone. It sure took some beatings from those storms.

Brad, the last roof we put on we supposedly had the lifetime guarantee roofing from Lowes put on. You have to deal with the company, apparently storm damage does not count. But somehow we may have gotten ripped off also. I had 2 different roofers go up and said it was just the 20 year shingles. I went with the 30 year roofing this time rather than lifetime. Thru the years with each roof, I am not sure it is the roofing or the contractors. When the shingles come off, there are not many nails in them. I know they are supposed to stick on, but I like to see a few nails too. Just me maybe? LOL

Nancy, When they deliver the shingles, take a package insert from one of the shingle packs to keep for reference. They usually have a sheet in them with all the details of the warranty, manufacturer, etc. Take it yourself so they can't give you a false one. Keep it with your receipt from the contractors. Before the roofer puts them on, look up the brand name and the required amount of nails per shingle. For example, when I looked it up, Owens-Corning requires 6 nails per shingle for the warranty. Here is a video that says four is the absolute minimum anywhere but where high winds prevail six are necessary. Personally I'd want 6. Here's a memo to self I found out when selling my Mom/Dad's house years ago. Insurance companies will only insure a roof that is less then 10 years old regardless of what the warranty was on it when you bought the roof. You need to insure a house in order to get an FHA bank loan on it. 20 years later I checked this fact again when I had a new roof put on my own home. State Farm confirmed that the 10 year rule still applied. I priced a new roof accordingly.................No scapes here yet that I've noticed.........Maryl

My insurance company paid a pro-rated amount on our 20+ year old roof due to the high winds last spring. When we had those other huge winds several times last year, many got pro-rated amounts in our area for their roofs from various companies. It may depend on state. We have Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance for home and car, which is one of the best yet cheapest in Kentucky. I hope you have that, Nancy.

I know lots of people that have had issues with State Farm. The bigger companies have some of the worst ratings in Consumer Reports.
