Dining room dilemma

We would love to put our dining table into our morning room, it is the most practical use for our family where we get to enjoy the view we bought this house for. that being said, we can’t figure out what to do with this soace in betwenen the kitchen island and our current living room set up.

Just shift your sectional closer to the kitchen and add stools to your island. I think it'll look ok.

IMO first getrid of the blinds that are blocking your view and use solar shades in the morning room they will allow you to have the view. As for the space left over I need to see the space with the sectional. Solar shades work best for the view in a dark color like charcoal or bronze I use 10% almost always They do not however give you nighttime privacy so if that is a must I mix them with drapes which BTW i like in DRs .Add the stools first to the island and then see what you need in that space Post the pic of that secrional area here in a comment do not start another post .What is the plan for the white furniture after the shift .

Agreed. Try shifting the sectional a bit. Also, move it a couple inches further from the windows.

    Lovely space!! 🤍🤍

Moved the sectional, moved the dining table going to look at a table to go on the backside with some seating for homework/snacks/extra seats on the couch. thanns eveyone! also ignore random chairs, have to carry them upstairs still

    A couple options:

--Round table so multiple people can enjoy the view. A round table will balance out the darker right angles of sectional and island. Choose one in same finish as floor with your varied white chairs in contrast. Drop a lovely pendant over the table. If you can find a round table with extensions, that would give you versatiluty when you have guests.

I agree with Patricia about solar shades.

-- Banquette backed up to island, which gives straight, well centered view to alcove and windows and plenty of space to walk through.

Curious thought, what if you swapped the rugs, put the lighter one in living and the darker under the table. might make the living room feel less heavy.

My kids are just a littttle too messy at their ages for the light rug under the couch (lesson learned), but once our youngest is a little older i have a pretty cream and sage carpet stored that will go back there!

That looks great and it flows so much better. When you get your console table and swap places with the chandelier and ceiling fan, it will look like it was always meant to be.

Wait! Don’t move that random chair yet! Move back the sectional, as suggested. Place a console behind it with lamps, etc. Then, place an area rug between the kitchen island and the console, and place two easy chairs there. A grouping that will enable visitors to comfortably sit there (not at the island) and chat with you while you are preparing a meal or putting out appetizers on the island. In other words, a little seating area in the zone between all three areas.

Or you can have the kids eat at a dining spot. That way, when you visit friends and relatives, they are not in the habit of roaming around with food and drinks in a house that may not be as kid friendly as yours. It’s also been shown that they develop better eating habits by sitting down and eating when they are hungry, rather than having food with them to eat at will. Not criticizing your parenting by all means.🙂

Oh no, they always eat at the table! but markers/play doh/muddy shoes (even though we dont wear shoes in the house??)/chocoate hands from running from the sink after dinner…i mean anything gets stuck in that rug 😂 plus 3 dogs with a very muddy back yard (another issue that needs to be addressed).

I wont lie, this feels wrong. we will realistically never sit here, and that feels impractical

Big improvement. Didn't realize you were willing to move sofa in morning room. That's so much better a place for your current dining table. Do move your sofa about a foot away from window for more light and airiness--makes a difference. In no time, your kids will be sitting at the island counter for snacks, ad hoc meals, homework.

Another layout possibility: Move TV to far wall so you can view it from kitchen. Then pivot sofa so one side face faces window for view, other side faces newly configured TV wall; and back of sofa facing window creates a walkway to kitchen/dining areas.

The rest is as you have it with dining in morning room, sofa table on sofa back.

I agree, that the 2 chairs on the rug doesn't really cut it.

Maybe with other suggested changes it will work but to me it's not making sense.

OK, big dogs too!! Your house looks super clean for having all that going on.🙂

Swap the fan over dining table for the chandelier. Great set up now.

I agree. The two chairs plopped in the middle space don’t work for you. Thanks for giving it a try, though!

The 2 chairs could work, but you would need a different console (less deep and not for storage) and the chairs need to be placed closer to the sofa, not floating in the middle of the space. No rug or a rectangular rug.

I did a similar setup in my house and it can work.

To add to chispa’s observation, making another seating group with the white leather sofa that was in the dining room is a possibility too. I’m all for buying new furniture but sometimes reimagining what is already on hand can work nicely too. There are already 9 dining chairs/stools adjacent to each other, possibly 11 if end chairs are added to the table, plus 3-4 more stools at the sofa console. If your lifestyle prioritizes dining seating options more than lounging, you know best. Not trying to persuade anyone, just making an observation.

Interesting- now I could see how the 2 chairs could work there. I am also very literal but your explaining closer to the sofa and not floating-- and myabe a little table there - it could work.

for me its a passthrough area, get a nice chunky sofa table and call it a day. Sometimes less is more.

swap the fan for the pendant light and just let it be.

I would move all the pieces where you want them to be, maybe slide the sofa into the new open area a bit so things don't seem so squished together and call it good. I like the open area in the middle.....give you breathing space.

I'm with Susan Davis. Pull the sectional back as much as you can and leave that area where the table was open.

    It looks amazing!!!

I don’t think you need anything between the sofa and the island.
