Design help needed-Bedroom

Hello Houzz community:

For the last 20 years or so, my bedroom has been a daycare, office, dumping ground, infirmary, movie theatre, therapist studio and place for me to collapse at the end of the day. Since the kids are away at college, it is time for me to make this space my sanctuary. I really need help as I am not sure I have a cohesive style. I have two beautiful oriental rugs that have sentimental value that I absolutely love. But, I am having a hard time figuring what to do with two dissimilar patterns. I would like a clean yet quirky space and I really need help with paint wall color, drape color, placement of the rugs, and should I keep the light gray couch ot replace with a tan one? I am not sure if there is enough information in these photos, but any suggestions would be welcome. Yeah.....it is a mess, but I figured that it is best to see it in it's true state. I like both classic/clean/simple AND eclectic design. Help me!!! Thank you in advance for any ideas, suggestions, idea.

New bedding would give you a jumping off place for new paint colors.

In the meantime, to get a sleeker look, try removing the dust ruffle and making the bed with either the white or blue covers.

first things first. DeClutter. Get 3 large Bins or boxes and a large trash bag.

Separate Trash, Donate, Keep, and Display items.

Remove the dust ruffle, and launder all the bedding.

Yes, the rugs can work, both possibly. work with what you alredy have.

I would paint the room SW Alabaster. Egg Sheel finish walls/ceiling, Semi gloss trim, all the same color.

a few more photos and measurements of the room, window placement, and furniture sizes will get you great placement suggestions.

Bring back into the room only the 'special' items.

What is under the wall to wall? Either one of the rugs (with a good pad under) would show much better on a wood floor. Even if the floor is a mess, you could paint it.

Choose the rug which is the bigger because you want it to look something like this (3/4 under the bed, 3' on either side). Now, this is hoping one rug is around the correct size.

Notice how bedding is simple.and modern art added into the mix.

With the red oriental, this scheme would work:

Here’s a couple of inspiring images with your rugs. I’d keep the bedding and curtains very light, and pull in the rug colors with accent pillows and art.

Oh! I really like the blue walls and white trim in the photo above. Thanks! Also, I wonder if I might consider hanging the smaller red rug on the wall?!? Love that blue paint color. Do you know what it is? Thank you

I don’t know what wall color was used, but here are some possibilities from Benjamin Moore. Are you thinking of using a rug as a headboard of sorts? I’d need to see the room as a whole to know if one of the rugs would look good as a wall hanging.

I was going to say you might want to hang one of the rugs but you beat me to it. Do you have a floorplan for the room? It might make it easiter to give suggestions especially regarding the rugs.
