"Black Magic" colocasia, container or ground?

I have these large green elephant ears, photo taken August 2022; they were a gift, and I have no idea what variety they are:

Now I have two Black Magic colocasia bulbs, and I'd like to plant them near the larger elephant ears that I've relocated to a new area. They'll also be near a Blue Java banana tree in a large container, and canna lilies that are in the ground.

The green elephant ears above are stable over my winters, even when it got down to 3F this recent winter! But I understand that the Black Magics wouldn't survive that.

The question is, should I plant them in the ground and dig them up every year? Or plant them in a container that I can move to the greenhouse over the winter (like I do with the banana tree)?

Also notable that the ground is mostly red clay, but I have plenty of wood chips that I can add in if I plant it in the ground.

TIA!
