Correct me if I am wrong but given that their water requirements are similar to Astilbe (which I removed from the garden years back cuz of requiring too much of the wet 'stuff') I will have to think carefully about this tempting purchase.

Aruncus (Goat's Beard) is significantly more drought-tolerant than Astilbe. While Astilbe will rapidly wilt and suffer from leaf scorch, established Aruncus develops a deep taproot that allows it to tolerate drier conditions much better, especially when planted in partial shade.

Hey @FrozeBudd_z3/4, I was too quick to dis(respect) Aruncus. I did have a couple of "Horatio" and I did enjoy them (although as I recall esteemed member @peren.all Zone 5a Ontario Canada thought they werent "Horatio" ;)).

I have found a source for your "Sparkles"!

I may have spoken to soon as these "Sparkles" are at a nursery well out of town and a nearby relative refuses to stop by and pick them up for me :(. She will now be off my Christmas card list!

Hey @FrozeBudd_z3/4, I was finally able to source "Sparkles" at a quite close by nursery to me 👍. I reserved them yesterday via email and stopped by this morning to pick them up. (I have mixed feelings about these "must have" threads as I get excited about a recommendation from a houzz member but as so often the case I have zilch room).

Rogue, am glad you'll have this wonderful perennial among your beautiful array of plants, I can just visualize it fitting in so well with the bit of formal elegance it lends to the garden. Again, it looks great as single specimen, but even better in multiples, as time goes by, dig and divide to make more!

Same! But today I came across some cats pajamas that I just recommended to PM,…and on sale. So of course I had to buy them! Luckily they are small so I can tuck them in easily….

Gardenho, I'm gonna have much fun with this plant spreading it all about the gardens by lifting and dividing it as much as possible, nice as well it's supposedly deer resistant. As for the 'Cat's Pajamas' nepeta, I originally purchased only one plant and now have about 100 about the place, it's about the most easy of anything to propagate!

Gardenho, due to the constant RAINS this spring and summer, I did not get around to taking many garden pics as I would have liked and now the nepeta past prime and downpour beaten. As for propagation, from an established plant I simply pull up the outermost stems from the base of the plant and these generally coming out with roots attached, trim back the tops and poke them into the garden patch and water in. One can also easily take unrooted cuttings to stick in a flat and cover over with plastic until the things take root in rather short order as they tend.

Fb sorry to hear you're having such a crummy season. Hopefully you didnt lose alot due to rootrot? Would love for some rain here. That heatwave really did a number on the gardens and everything is now sulking terribly. We sure could use an all day gentle rain….
