Entryway rug struggles
We need an entry way rug that will fit/fill the space. Shapes and size suggestions are welcomed!!
✅ A durable rug because we very much live in this home with an active son and two dogs
✅ Open to various suggestions/links appreciated
✅ budget-friendly preferred because of high-traffic area
Previous choices and why the 🚫 is listed:
🚫 Circle rug didn’t seem to fit the layout of the space. Centered under light and most definitely missed a lot of the traffic volume
🚫 Square jute rug is so messy and most definitely does not look good here.
We’ve lived here for two (2) years and I have never been happy with any rug I have used.
I need your help with what I should do with this entry space for a durable rug for traffic but also compliment entryway.
Some frustrations I’ve had with a circle rug and a square jute rug have been they never seem to fill the space appropriately. The jute rug sheds. The circle rug didn’t feel like it fit the space correctly.
The hanging light has always been a struggle because it is hung in the center of the measured space, but to find a rug that sits under it and performs as a durable entry rug has been nothing but failures and disappointments.
Two pictures are from living room looking directly at front door and then the open dining room (current playroom) facing at an angle to show office, front door, and half bathroom.
The third picture is my very basic skills at displaying the layout of room with measurements for those that have the best eye for the space.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoYes, that’s an odd space with the light hung in an odd spot. How about moving the light to the center of the ’top’ wall, where the entry door is, and a rug shaped like this red box?

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoPerhaps tape out 2 or 3 square sizes, centered under the light. Square is harder to find, so if no luck, try rectangle. Once the size is chosen, begin your rug search. (Here is one site that has lots of square options.)

Can’t see the console‘s accessories and art/mirror above, so be sure they feel coordinated with rug choice.

3 years agoFind a rug you like that has the right rectangular size to fit the space (Purple rectangle). Have the edge along the office door cut (green line) and bound at the right place so the wood floor border is the same size all the way around.

That's a beautiful entry.
I’d just put small rug to by the door.
If you go larger then it would have to be more centered and you want a rug near the door to wipe your feet when entering.
