I have several Crape Myrtles on my lot,some Dwarf,some old standards. At 30 years old the tallest dwarf is less than 10'. My Possumhaw Holly earn lots of comments during winter.

Thank you. I think Crape Myrtle may be my best bet. It's just so hard to know how big they'll really get since the tags aren't alway accurate for Texas growing. I guess I'll just have to take a chance. I've actually never heard of Possumhaw Holly, so going to look it up!

I have several Crepe Myrtles, and they're all over 20 feet in height. One in full sun, and others largely in shade. I do hack the former back every year to reduce shade below, however.

To assure Crepe Myrtles you buy are dwarf cultivars buy from a nursery that has been in business several years and has a good reputation. Trade days and big box stores are not good places to shop for plants. I've used Covington's in Rowlett Tx for many years and find them reliable.

Fair point, The ones I have are several decades old, and are unlikely to be dwarf cultivars. But no question that non-dwarf cultivars can get quite big.
