I suggest sizing the rug to the console.

I’d use a 2x7 or 2x8 runner. It’s fine if the table is on some of it.

I’ve had the same jute runner in my entry in two houses now; it’s over 20 yrs old. Has held up very well through guests, kids, cats, dogs.

Elcieg, your post wasn’t showing when I made mine — that’s a good look, too.

If it was my door, I would only have a rectangular rug at the floor near the front door. The rug would be large enough to step into the room and close the door while still standing on the rug. I wouldn’t have a runner up to the length of the console table. I would not like the front legs of the console on the rug and have the table be lopsided.

Most likely, a 2ft wide runner wouldn’t be under the legs. The mock-ups always skew things a bit.

But even if one went under somewhat, it really wouldn’t be noticable or high enough to make most tables lopsided.

A normal sized door mat wouldn’t clear that first leg, I don’t think.
