Yes! We are renovating a bathroom and kitchen and that’s what the floor of my office area looks like!

I basically carried a showroom worth of materials in my SUV! I had a couple of large canvas totes that could fit some good sized samples ... they weighed a ton, but gave me a good workout!

I had started my research and collecting samples when we were still living in our old state, so I probably had 50 lbs of samples that got shipped with all our stuff when we made the cross country move!

I also carried a big binder with plans, layout, design boards, material selections, etc ... my Building Bible!

@Mark Bischak, Architect I would hire you for your commentary alone... but I'm also a smart ass (or perhaps I'm just a glutton for punishment?) On the Hunter Orange... we have some MCM pieces that my SO has collected over years, and those have an influence on our direction. But not that much of an influence - orange isn't my jam, even if it is fairly prevalent in MCM colorways.

ETA - yes, I'm having fun! I love researching this kind of stuff, and would rather visit a hardware or appliance store than a department store any day. My fun borders on obsession, including going into a stranger's windowless van to view sample cabinet and appliance pulls. (It's actually a mobile showroom, which is pretty cool, but my friends now refer to it as my Murder Truck adventure.)

@chispa "I also carried a big binder with plans, layout, design boards..." I have a binder too :). Mine has lots of scaled sketch ups on graph paper among other things. I very much take after my engineer dad.

Thank goodness I'm a minimalist! I mostly endlessly agonize over the $$$ & ¢¢¢¢ of the build.

@worthy: even minimalists need things like tile, cabinets and counters! Maybe Mrs Worthy is the one who picks out the fun stuff?

And lucky me... I'm also writing the checks, so I feel your pain on worrying over the costs!

My binders (two of them) are full of floor plans, elevations plans, notes on appliances, etc. The samples themselves are kept at the interior designers and this time around I let her choose pretty much everything. I chose the appliances, counters and the knobs/pulls and that was it. My measuring tape is pink. :)

Most of my renovations were done long distance so I rarely had physical samples. Fewer choices made for easier selection.

My measuring tape is chrome with a black and yellow logo.

I have a full box of just flooring samples in my garage from when we did the floors a few years ago.   Not to mention all the cabinet and backsplash samples in my office for my current kitchen reno.  Couldn't imagine doing a whole house!
