I have the opposite problem, no accessories and no imagination. I may post my dull living room for your advice!

I would actually add another pop of color, maybe one or two things, like coral to tone down the green....

looks just right to me ! I like rooms to have the cozy quaint look,!

You have some very lovely pieces. Way too nice to yard sale. Once you have decided what you want to eliminate list them on eBay

Sometimes we get too many items we love! Remove everything...... add a FEW of your favorite pieces back stop and take a picture....then see if you like it. Do this in every space you think needs simplifying.... You do not have to dispose of the "extra" items either find a bare space or pack them away and TRADE off pieces, from time to time..... (The table by the door should move elsewhere) :-)

You have lovely accessories :). I would suggest rotating them (maybe seasonally to refresh the look?). That way you CAN have it all, just not out all at once. More specifically, I'd suggest:

Picture 1:

- I love the ghost chair, but with the stool under your table, it's not needed, so I would remove it to open up the space.
- I would move the lamp to the right side of the table, and secure the cord to the back of the table so it's not distracting. Keep the box, and put the L on it. Keep that tray (or another) for keys, etc. Move wooden sculpture elsewhere.
- the egg on the table next to the door makes me nervous, and it looks cluttered, I would remove it.

Picture 2:

- Pare down the tabletop to just the lamp and the bowl & books from below (you can put seasonal balls or flowers in the bowl).
- for the bottom part of the table, I would do books (vertical) anchored with your foo dog from the tabletop, and another object.
- the sheepskin on the chair is warm and inviting, but only if it's cold outside.

Picture 3:

- beautiful sofa & pillows! I would remove the 2 pillows in the middle.
- for the table, keep the driftwood (can be changed seasonally - or not)
- for the table top, I would do candles and books, and perhaps a small candy dish.

Picture 4:

- remove the 2 larger shells;
- or remove the tiered shell piece, and 1 of the large shells, and keep 1 large shell to fill with items or leave as is.

You have great taste and I love the colors you have chosen. The grey and greens and natural tones are very soothing. I love your couch and pillows (agree with previous post that you don't need the two in the middle), all the colors that you have chosen are lovely. The white shell on the coffee table seems too big and white for that spot...it might look great on the floor in a corner or as a doorstop. Love the driftwood and green glass. If you want something large on the table, maybe you could use one of the large clam shell halves on the coffee table with sea glass inside...The chair and candle table in the entryway seem out of place and I don't think that you need them there at all. I think what you have done is very pretty and inviting, however, less is more.

Grouping and rotating for the season is the key....your green glass collection (limit to 3 pieces) might be nice on your entryway console with nothing else to compete with it. The large white shell could sit by itself on a bookshelf and that tablescape with all the shells can be put away to make room for more seasonal objects for the fall. Keep in mind that every single surface or wall space does not have to be filled...that simply takes away from enjoying the things you have.

Lovely, bright space. Very welcoming... that's why I would lose the little table at the door... it's a distraction from the lovely colors. On the console, lose everything but the lamp, the mirror and the white box (or replace the box with something with a different pop of color). Replace that chair with an umbrella can.

Remove the table with the egg thing, remove chair by the stairs & replace with stool that's under table, stain table dark, put the egg thing on top of white box, leave key tray on, remove lamp & wood carving ornament, No lamp is needed if there is an entrance light. Mirror is too big for the space. Remove the deer head from wall.

Yes, pretend you are moving and are staging the house to sell. You want cozy, but spacious looking. Generally, people "hide" at least 1/3 of their stuff when selling. After you do that, allow yourself a few items to bring back in that you love. I have the same problem! I love accessories and have quite a "bone pile" of items I just can't part with so I'll rotate or move things around a bit. My husband will ask.."Is that new?" No honey...; )

Think white space. Accessories need white space around them so they can be seen. Beautifully framed art shows best with a matt, just the same as an eye catching ad. Accessorized pieces need a place for your eye to rest. The lack of distance between objects or a,collection of objects is why your surfaces have a cluttered feel. But you do have lovely things:)

For L/Room sofa, keep 2 solid green cushions, add 2 dark brown satin cushions, and one lengthwise cushion or 2 small (orange color), clear underneath table and put white shell there,leave the candy bowl and 2 green bottles. Add 2 decorative fake books with a tint of orange (find them at Home sense store) Use your imagination!

This totally happens to everyone the treasures just seem to multiply like little bunnies. I would seriously clear everything and move to your dining room table. Then shop your accessories and fill each area with a new selective eye. Consider inviting a trusted friend that you feel has a like minded style or a home you admire....good luck!

I think you've received a lot of good advice but I just wanted to add that the items grouped on the coffee table looked odd to me - they are too close to the edge and look like they could easily get knocked off. Since the table is already glass, I would also recommend switching those items for things that aren't. Maybe add a tray and put your seashells in it or candlesticks. If it's inside a tray it looks less cluttered somehow.

thanks so much everyone for your thoughtful comments. tried to incorporate as much as i could but still a work in progress. here are pix of my fall/winter look. will add more whites & bright pops of color for spring/summer. having problems with console/hallway. think i need a new mirror and pop of color on console as well as lose the deer head even though i love the little guy. maybe use him to hang jewelry in bedroom or dressing room. let me know what you think.

I would add some family photos in colorful frames on the console...just three or so in varying sizes and pulling in those beautiful greens you use as well as a surprise color of maybe rust, gold or even patterned with bone inlay or something similar.

Great job! What many of us forget is that when we add new items, we also need to subtract some from what's already there. (I am as guilty as the rest!)

Everything feels too far apart for me - like they're teetering on the edge of your surfaces. I would just move them a little closer so that they look like they relate to each other.

i moved everything closer together and it looks much better. thanks for the tip!

finally tackled the hall. can't seem to let go of the ghost chair. the translucent chair and lamp reads more grey than black. here are pix of several alternatives. fell like i need another color here. all too black, white, grey, greens. opinions please.

remove everything you have on the floor .
Less is best.
If you feel the need for some color try the silver./red/yellow (floral?) pillow from the sofa to the ghost chair and see how it looks .

Maybe throw in some gold or brass accents to warm it up and relate it more to the warm wood tones you have. I think the pic frames on the wall would really work in gold. I'm not loving that letter L - it feels a little juvenile to me and I think the books are a little small in scale for that large lamp to be on top of them. I think I would take the lamp off them and put the bowl on top of the books (if you have a gold or brass bowl that would be even better). Get rid of the L and maybe put a large basket under the table instead of the lone vase. Also, I don't like the sheepskin rug under there - maybe throw it over your ghost chair and see how that works (it may not work at all but can't hurt to give it a try). If that doesn't work, I say get it out of there. Also, I don't see the need for that pic on the floor - it just clutters things up and looks like it's waiting to be hung somewhere. If you really love it, I would try standing it up on the table behind your white box. Hope that helps.

Btw, Looking at your original pics - I much prefer the sunburst mirror to the white one you replaced it with.

i kinda agree with you since it adds some texture otherwise everything is tool cold. was responding to someone's comment about it being too big and couldn't figure out what to do with the blank left side of the wall.

anne - yes i am removing everything on the floor. i just want to hide the lamp cord so will try baskets.

what about reversing the mirror with the pics and vice versa.

Like the mirror but do not like the side pictures......too busy. If you leave the side pictures, then no mirror.

use the Top pic seen in yr post. remove the second bottom pic.
Place mirror on this wall.

anne, unfortunately i can't hang any mirrors on the picture wall or all my luck and fortune will go out the window as it faces the front door. i agree about the sunburst. how about either one of these everyone. sorry to be such a pain but i am obsessed about solving this and other things too of course!!!

Wow..you work fast! This is much improved. I might add another basket underneath if you have it but this mirror is much better and I like the traditional lamp on the modern table. I"m torn on the lamps I like the base of the brass one and the shape of the shade but I like the color of the black (can you maybe put a black shade on it?). At this point though it's just being nitpicky as the over all look of both is much more cohesive. If I'm going to continue to nitpick, I would advise against the green bowl and add a small, oblong tray or a lower, longer bowl - the box and the bowl are two similar in size and height for me.

michelle - what do you think? was trying to add a pop of green on the table but as you suggesting tried a silver tray. switch lamp shade on column to black as you suggested but i think i prefer the other lamp as it even more traditional and juxtaposes against the modern table as well as picks up the mirror colors more. m undecided on lamp selection. happen to have another basket. do you think it's too much?

My opinion

For the white console, I would get rid of the gold mirror and hang your two white pictures in its place. Secondly, I would put the white box in the center of the table and the white egg by the door you had on the silver table in your original pictures on the left. The white shaded lamp goes on the right side kind of in front of the pictures. I would put your white garden stool under your console and, sorry,,,,,,I would put your ghost chair somewhere else. Your console seems very modern to me, so I would go all white with this table. Just my opinion. Good luck. The good thing about having all your accessories, is that you don't have to go shopping!!! :)

Maybe the elements aren't perfect...but this looks so much better. I like to mix modern and traditional and because the rest of your house is a mix - I def don't recommend making this all white and modern because, in my opinion, it will stick out like a sore thumb. I honestly think the lamps could go either way- I almost wish they were a tiny bit shorter - I prefer the simpler brass one but if you like the other one, it won't make much of a difference. Honestly, there are probably a million ways you could approach this and you can always improve on it but I think this looks a lot better than when you started. I would probably put something in the baskets as well just so they seem to serve a purpose.

I like the new mirror. I don't think you need the baskets under the console - too distracting. The stools were low-key and had an additional function. If you don't have stools underneath, definitely recommend securing the cord to the table. If you really want to keep the ghost chair there, I would not accessorize it - keep it clean and simple.

What's with the two baskets under the table? Just a figurine would do the trick, perhaps an elephant, or a swan, or a geese or that white box. The lamp clashes with the mirror, maybe put one of the picture where the mirror is and the mirror where the pictures were. The chair needs to go somewhere else, maybe somewhere close to the entrance door. If the baskets are for magazines, you need only one, The table is too small for so many things on it, just the lamp and the key tray is good.

I agree with Beverly and Karen, do not like the 2 baskets.

If you want to hide the lamp cord, Put a tall image of something to hide it, or remove the lamp and put a little battery lamp there. You are not going to sit there to read are you? That little space is so crowded!

Everything looks so great. Well done! I love the silk pillows, but I also like the bold green and white ones you had there previously. Keep those too and change your pillows from time to time or sell them to me :)
