Not a single bloom? thats weird. where did you get them from?

I usually plant them an inch or two deep depending on the size of the bulbs, tiny bulbs go even less than that. You could put soil on them at any time after they go dormant through until late winter.

I dont think its the depth of planting which is keeping them from blooming, maybe a photo of the foliage could help.

i would suspect they were planted too deep.. rather than too shallow ...

anyway.. dig them out just as leaves are yellowing.. and store like an onion until fall planting season ... or just replant them immediately ...

i dont know if the bulb forum is active at all.. but the perennial forum would be a place to also post ....

Okay... thank you. They were 'end of season' bulbs, discounted from a local hardware store. I have read that snowdrops like to be planted deep, which is why I questioned the depth. I did get a couple of blooms but I planted about 50 bulbs, so... not a great show. The leaves, however, look shiny and lovely. I'll try to get a photo tomorrow. I'm in Cape Breton, N.S., Canada, zone 5.

'Shiny and lovely' sounds like Galanthus worowonii which is a species of snowdrop with shiny, grass-green (rather than grayish) foliage which for me in Pennsylvania can take a few seasons to settle in and bloom well. Once they do they'll flower and seed all over!

how deep did you plant them... the general rule.. is 3 times the diameter of the bulb ... and as i recall these bulbs are less than an inch.. so 3 inches might be a good depth ... [and since canada and all, eh.. i will say they are less than a meter.. so 3 times less than a meter... lol ... self-entertaining this morning ..lol...]

another reason for lack of bloom.. would be too much high nitro fert... like lawn fert.. which forces lush green growth over bloom... sometimes if they are planted right on the edge of the lawn.. improper lawn fert'g can cause problems...
