Almost every window in my house in La Quinta ( East of Palm Springs ) has tinted windows. Make a big difference on glare, fading & heat.

I do not live in your climate so take this with a grain of salt, but could you build a pergola over the right side of your house (it would look bad just over the slider) and train a hardy, salt-tolerant climber over it?

I have used the tinting but honestly can't tell much difference. May be the installer or materials...

I have a covered portico to the left of those doors and was trying to avoid covering it permanently to avoid losing so much light. Considering an awning...

I don't know if it works, but there is reflective film for windows designed for situations like this. Different than a tint. You could definitely do a motorized awning. But maybe you should just replace the doors with something that is extremely energy efficient.

Will look into reflective film. The doors are double pane low E impact glass installed less than 3 yrs ago.

What about a roll-down awning from the roof?
