I would suggest looking at exhaust fan options…something that draws/blows the heat out at ceiling level… or ….installed in windows higher up..we have a similar situation ,because we really don’t like using the a.c. ….ours are installed at the highest part of the ceiling and even on very warm days ….that is all we need

We use our ceiling fans for blowing the warm air down …as it gravitates upward on cooler days

Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately it's a condo so installing things like exhaust fans and new vents isn't always a straight forward option if it involves altering the exterior. Hence why I thought the ceiling fan would be a good option.

I knew the general rule for a ceiling fan is to have it 8-9 feet off the ground but in this instance I am not sure if that is the case to get the best circulation. If I go with a 3 foot downrod the fan will be 14 ft off the ground.

That is the wrong location for the electrical box. If you expect the fan to actually work in this volume space it will likely be about 54 - 66" in diameter and your box is too close to the railing.

Thank you for the feedback. I can change the mounting point. I can't change the fan as its on order already so I'm stuck with it at 52". That is also what the store recommended based on my space size.

So what height should I mount it at? and how far from the railing? The 8-9 foot rule is without an open concept den. The pics you attached have the fan sitting alot higher than 8-9 ft off the ground.

Thank you for the feedback! Do you think it would be beneficial to put a second fan up in the den as well? Would that conflict with the other fan in terms of pushing air down and around?

We have a ceiling fan in our vaulted family room, the center peak of the ceiling is 16 feet high. We went with a 6 foot down rod (longest available at Lowe's.) Looks good, works fine.
