Not sure a bout a visualizer but usually landscaping starts with a visit to a local garden center where you get the best info as to what grows well in your area. I redid my back yard with just beds on the perimeter and gravel for the rest with big planters it cut down on my water use hugely . Another area of me yard is a bit of a raisedspot where I planted thyme for a gound cover with native plants and I rarely water there at all and it is my fave place to sit sort of like a little woodland area..

Not precisely a visualizer but the California Friendly Landscaping website (https://www.ladwp.cafriendlylandscaping.com) has scores of inspirational photos for you to peruse, including full gardens, plant selection and lawn alternatives.

Depending on location, not all the plants may be suitable for your situation but it is enough to get you started in the right direction.

I’ve been taking pictures around our neighborhood. But need a way to start laying it out. Our house is eggshell yellow so looking at orange, yellow, white, and purple plants.

I attended a local waterwise workshop. They recommended odd numbers of plants 3’s and 5’s and different heights.

I will take our pics to the local nursery and find out names and how far apart everything needs to be. And which ones can be grouped together.

Are there any other rules or guidelines?

If you post straight on pics of your house there are a couple pros who are good about posting a visual plan.

You can go old school and print up black and white photos then use a marker to draw in shapes and textures. In your actual yard using garden hose to mark out paths and placing boxes for shapes is a great way to figure out looks you like. If you think in terms of sizes and shapes instead of plants in the begining it will be very helpful.

I will repost when we are closer to doing this and have all our pictures of plants we can use to see if any of the pros have suggestions for layout. I still need to go to the local nursery and see which ones are waterwise.

IScape app has a free trial. I found it easy to use. Not sure about xeriscape plants but you can sort by zone.
