Shingle Color Help

Hi all,

We are under contract on this house and the seller is replacing the roof, but we get to pick the shingle color. Any suggestions? The roof is huge and a large visual part of the house so shingle color seems pretty important. Not sure what color to do with the brick. Appreciate your thoughts.

The existing color looks pretty good to me. Do you have a sample board of the colors you have to choose from? If so, post a picture of that so people can give more specific advice.

Congratulations! I like Cedar Falls because it looks like it has some interesting variations? More importantly, what are YOU drawn to?

Your brick is nice and I agree the current roof color looks good. Be careful of shingles with a lot of color variegation since it can often look very busy with brick.

Hard to say what I am drawn to! I feel like this is one of those things where if you do a good job picking the color no one will really notice the shingles/comment on them, but if you do a poor job then its super noticeable. So it feels very high stakes! haha. So I'm not sure what I'm drawn to, but I think grey might be bad because it would maybe make the entire house just look awash in grey. Maybe a browner shade to bring out some of the tan in the brick?

Can you get a sample board from the roofer? You definitely need to see the colors in person - then you can take the sample board to the house and look at the options against the current rood and brick

ETA - I think some pale greys can look washed out/worn/faded so something to keep an eye on

Cassie, I can really relate since your home’s exterior is seen by so many! I’m very partial to gray roofs, BUT it might not be a good choice if your brick is warm with tans/creams. As la_la Girl suggested, get samples you can check at the house.

Congrats on your new home. It is beautiful. You see a lot of the roof, so you definitely want something that complements the brick. I tend to choose weathered wood in many different scenarios. IMO it is one of those shingles that doesn’t call attention to itself and works with warm toned facades. The roofer should have large samples you can borrow and hopefully the sellers are ok with you coming over to look at the shingles next to the brick.

Mission Brown. Have the roofer (or you) pick up a couple bundles and lay them out on the roof.

I think Mission Brown would be good. I don't think you want too much variation because your brick has variation, and I don't think you want two variegated patterns stacked on each other.
