Yes rouge21, it stays out on the balcony with a bunch of others. It has the biggest pot 15X21 which also has a quite thick resin material. I guess that may be reason for its longevity. It also had some seriously thick roots when I up-potted it from a 12" pot at least 4-5 years back. Since then it hasn't been cared for much except occasional fertilizing and pruning when it gets too unruly.

Forgot to add my ‘Lavender twist’ weeping redbud. Started with a 12” stick : ) Not the best bloom this year due to heavy pruning last season. Next year should be better....

Thanks, rouge21! I was also experiencing diminished size and performance with mine until I moved it to a sunnier location…seems much happier with a few more hours of sunlight, even though the tag said it could take full shade.

@rouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a), I just started the seed last spring, so it remains to be seen what is does over the course if s full season. Most dianthus here will pause during the heat of summer, but I grew this one specifically for it’s reported heat and humidity tolerance. I will sheer it back after the first wave of blooms and it SHOULD repeat.

I'm gradually shifting my rose selections to rugosas and hybrids with rugosa genes, as cold winter temps even here in central Kentucky are enough to knock back other types severely. "Mrs. Anthony Waterer", a hybrid between a rugos and a perpetual sort, has been full of fragrant blooms in May.

Geum ”Totally Tangerine”. Hard to get a good photo of this beauty, it’s very pretty in person!

LOL lovemycorgi! I have never planted ornamental geums because a wild geum - Yellow Avens (Geum aleppicum) - is a big weed problem here. Do the ornament geums have the burr-like seedheads to spread the seeds when they attach to a person or animal passing by? I’ve always wondered about that…. I’ve never planted an ornamental one as I assume I’m likely to rip it out thinking it’s a weed! There are some pretty ornamental ones but I assume they are off-limit for me :-)

@woodyoak, I’ve never noticed any burr-like seedheads, but for sure I’ll be paying attention now, lol!! It does get more tattered looking later in the season and I almost shovel-pruned it last year because of that, but just moved it to a different location instead.

Thanks Rouge, I was pleasantly surprised by its vibrant color. Its in 3rd year and I’m not sure how tall it can get as I just have it growing up my chainlink fence. It’s a keeper for sure.

Here's my front yard, looking away from the rose bed. The hanging basket on the porch has a pink verbena which is coming on gangbusters and some pink dianthus. The unusual orange striped salvia in the window box on the narrow end of the porch is thriving, as is the now-blooming portulaca, its box-mate. The newly-repointed stone garden planter is still too newly planted for the residents to be peeking their heads above its walls. My yucca plant, planted last year, is now sporting two blooms-to-be, so I guess it likes its pot. My latest addition, the terracotta pipes I stuck into the ground, contain various succulent bloomers which are blooming their heads off. The little bed to the right of the porch has a Neon Flash and a Candy Corn dwarf spirea which are just starting to bloom. And on the far side of the "swoosh" bed is Magic Carpet dwarf spirea, already covered in pink blooms. Its buddy, Flutterby Fruiti Tutti buddleia, has grown a lavish set of leaves but no blooms yet. And the sod really took well, giving me a velvety carpet I have to mow every few days. My milk can cornucopia of lantana, dianthus, and marigolds is also thriving, as is the blue-green hosta on the porch. Have no idea of what variety that hosta is--looks like possibly Blue Angel. And finally blooming behind the milk can is my gaillardia, Arizona Sun.

Opuntia growing in coastal NC. The opuntia that I see in Northern VA clay soil are pathetic little guys who look deflated until July (Hey buddy, who let the air out of your cactus?) but in NC beach sand they are truly happy.

@GardenHo_MI_Z5, it’s crazy, isn’t it? I can’t recall so hot and dry a May, ever. I’m watering just about everything; we’re on a well, so don’t have to pay sky-high prices for city water, thank goodness, but really feel for those who do. Maybe we’ll get some relief by mid-June… 🙏

@GardenHo_MI_Z5 and @lovemycorgi z5b SE michigan it is scary dry where we are as well. Lucky I bought and planted most of our perennials in April and early May when we saw lots of precipitation. But the annuals need water so much still to get established. It is nerve wracking wondering when it will rain.

Thanks rouge, it started out with 26 buds in its first flush! I have never had a more productive rose in a 3 gallon pot. And the color variation is a delight. I scored it from Lowes for $4 last fall. 😊 Now, if I could find a yellow/orange/red of similarly strong genetic makeup I would not kill 3/4 roses every year. Yes, the hydrangea is in a 10" hanging basket, trying to be purple this year. I got it as a blue one in a 6 inch pot from Trader Joe's early last spring. It didn't need a bigger pot when I checked in early spring but probably does now. I am trying to decide whether to defer it until the buds have had a chance to fully open.
