Window in bedroom

Do people use cellular honeycomb shades in bedroom or they would look tacky?

I have this long window above my bed which is only 33 inches tall but about 16 feet wide. On the ends are going to be curtain panels. But I need privacy for the windows and I don’t want curtains to go behind the bed. They look odd to me if they are behind the bed.

So I need blinds/shades.

I am not v particular about either choice from design perspective. I just don’t want anything to look tacky.

FYI: here are the changes going to be made.

Paint will be switched to some off white ( maybe cloud white)

there will be crown moulding all around the room. Currently it’s only on 3 walls. The curtain rod will go higher. The curtains will be light blue silk. The room palette will be light blue and off white.

Also location of bed cannot be changed . This is the only wall we can put bed on. One wall has fireplace . One wall has closets. One wall opens directly in front of the door and there’s issue with privacy that we cannot compromise on.

I got a quote for roller shades and that’s 3-4 times as expensive as cellular.

Wanted an opinion on whether it’s worth the extra money to put roller shades rather than cellular.

IMO the drpaes behind the bed would be my choice for sure and especially with the style you have going on the wall of drapes suits it perfectly This is my bedroom with drpes actually on 2 walls both with windows and IMO not tacky at all I just have my bed pulled a bit forward so the drapes can be opend and closed easilyl

    I would choose shutters.

especially if you are lightening up the space with white and blue.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting i feel the drapes covering the entire wall which is about 16 feet long would be a bit too much .. i guess i could try putting them on and see how they look. Mayhe they would look good and that would solve my problem of not even needing blinds.

if i do go with drapes all the way on the back, should i keep the existing rod that pulls the drapes with a string cord mechanism or should i change it to a plain round metal rod ?

@stiley i m afraid i wouldnt give out correct measurements and that wouldnt be able to install myself anyway.

Move your bed and other furniture off the wall a few inches, close the drapes and be done with it.

@arcy_gw these drapes are to be replaced anyway. i am changing the color

palette . i might even change the headboard to an off white color.

would i be able to get a rod long enough to cover the entire wall ?

What about sheer curtain panels behind the new blue curtains? Pull the bed out, have both the new curtain and the sheers on different pulls or cords, so the sheers can be closed for privacy and the blue curtains can stay open, or both open or closed. Curtains all the way across suits your space.

Sheers would look nice but they wont afford privacy .

Maybe look into adding privacy window film and if this works I would use a pretty sheer to span the wall. Instead of crown mounding on window wall could be a valence box built to span window wall at top so sheers are hung from under it.

I think it’d be pretty and gracious to have a wall of the light blue silk drapes coming from a thin white ceiling mount. Then that wall would not need the ceiling molding.

I think I would keep the traverse rod it makes opening and closing much easier and has a bit more formal look I love the green BTW

Do the windows span the length of the entire wall behind the bed?

Pale blue drapes, white walls, addition of crown molding. I used the color of the existing molding, are you planning on painting it?

thank you for all the suggestions.

Loved to see my room in inspiration colors! yes the crown moudling will be white dove too , except in semi gloss finish.

i liked this green too, but i just love blue and it‘s my husbands favorite too , so finally going to do it in white and blue.

is traverse rod the one that’s there already? i pull the curtains with cord mechanism on ends , so its easy to move. but i really like the look of rods like in this picture which though is not a bedroom but i just love it .

    1) I am wondering if its a design blunder to have crown moulding on 3 walls only . and on the 4th wall, only curtain rod?

The previous owner had it like this.

we didnt like the box valance so took it down. Now we plan to put a rod up there. i like the idea of cord mechanism for curtains for ease of closing/opening. But if we dont do the box valance , then plain rod like it is now in my room ( picture posted in first message) looks bad.

    2) are valances a thing to do now? I feel they r out of trend. those also require bed to be pulled at least 6 inches forward so room will look small.

    3) if i choose to do a metal rod , can i find one long enough to go across 16 feet of wall.

or maybe i should do blinds on windows and curtain panels only on the side ( i am dying to get sky blue silk curtains!! ) That way i can do with two separate rods just enough to cover the wall on both sides of the bed.

    4) which is better? curtain rod without crown moulding , or curtain rod right below the crown moulding?

please i would love to hear opinions. We do need to do this fairly quickly as well as the painter will be here next week for paint, patch, skim coat and the old rod taken down and new needs to go in before that.

I would add crown on that fourth wall and put the rod right below it. I found this 16' rod by doing a quick search. The Shade Store will do a custom rod for you, although they're pricey. Smith & Noble is another place to get a long rod. If you plan to open and close every day, I would splurge for motorized shades and use the drapery as decorative. But still get enough fullness on the drapery that they look functional. Your color choices sound so pretty; this is going to be a beautiful room!

Can this pattern of curtains be done on a traverse rod? because if they go behind the bed, i would like them spaced out like this rather than the whole back wall covered with curtains.

or would this style be better? this room profile looks similar to mine except tht i have shorter windows that also go behind the bed.

for privacy i m doing blinds anyway.
