Someone mentioned Rugelda rose as it has the red center stripe, but that is a yellow rose. These buds look white to me. This is the first time this rose has flowered.

Marie Bugnet has buds like that. So does sister Louise Bugnet. Both rugosas. They are really great roses as is Snow Pavement, but I agree your plant is not SP.

Hi Sheila. Thanks for commenting. The flower buds of both Marie and Louise Bugnet do look exactly like what I am growing. Which would mine be? What is the difference between the two? My rose is quite short.

I grew Marie Bugnet, and never actually met Louise. Does the seller carry Marie Bugnet? Sometimes looking at the seller's list helps. I think Marie is more common.

My Marie was modest in size. HMF roses has Marie 3 ft X 3 ft and Louise also short but wider. Snow Pavement was more upright.

Look at all the photos on HMF roses. They say Louise has some purple in the bud too. I never saw Louise.

I have no idea where this rose came from, Sheila! As said, I thought I had planted an off shoot of Snow Pavement that I had potted up. I would agree with you my rose is more likely to be Marie Bugnet if for the only reason that it is more likely to have been sold from somewhere. My rose is quite small at the moment and has been growing in the spot for coming up two years. This is the first year to have any flowers. It is staying quite short. All told, to me it looks like you nailed it with Marie Bugnet. As well, I do have a memory but am not sure where from, about thinking "I'm growing Therese Bugnet, now I have another Bugnet variety." Or thoughts something like that. Just a stray thought, nothing more to add to it. So it is possible I picked up Marie Bugnet somewhere like a box store, then forgot about it. All I know is I had planted this little rose in a bed where it stayed for a year. Felt it wasn't doing great, not enough sun, so dug it out and potted it up. Then replanted it in another spot with a bit more light beside a concrete wall about six feet from a large Mountain Ash tree. So the second spot isn't ideal either due to the tree. However the rose seems to be doing well there, and this year has flower buds! So this is at least year three for me growing this rose and it is still quite small. Which would tie in with Marie Bugnet which isn't supposed to get over three feet.
