It should releaf in due course. Nothing you can do but wait.

Good to know, thank you GG.

Thank you. No signs of any new eaves yet but still holding its coral color. Keeping my fingers crossed.

So still no signs of any new leaves. Here is a pic with it still holding its coral color…so it must still be alive?

Oh dear......that doesn't look good. 😕 If it was going to, it would have releafed by now. Or at least started to. I can't see the stems clearly enough to determine bud viability but with no new leaves appearing, I'd suspect any present are shriveled and dried.

Would you agree that with its color that its still alive? wouldnt it blacken if dead?

" Would you agree that with its color that its still alive? wouldnt it blacken if dead? "

No. Color is no guarantee. It takes time after death for stem color to change or even for "green" wood under the bark to disappear or turn brown.

Well thats some sad news. Thanks GG.

Don't do anything with it until you check the buds! If the buds are still plump and firm, there is still a decent chance the tree may leaf out, although it is very late in the season for that to happen. In fact, I'd just let it be for now, watering as necessary according to your weather, until you can confirm it is no longer alive. And that may not be until late winter or early spring when the buds are normally swollen. But a full growing season without leaves is pretty much a death sentence. Sorry.

I would only decide to remove sooner if the tree was still under any sort of warranty.

It’s past the warranty unfortunately. Just looked and I see only a couple of possible leaf buds that are dried up. I think its toast but I will leave it and hope for the best. Thanks again!

Please help me. I put a 10 10 10 fertilizer on my Coral bark JM in March 2025. It started development in leaves but low temperatures at night arrived again. I live in zone 7B Tennessee. I'm scared to death that low temps back early April got my tree stressed. I did finger nail test on trunk and it's green. Will it survive? Buds did scorch. Cold temperatures got it! Sucks

Reading the previous comments would indicate that a late leaf out is certainly possible. It depends on the state of any buds.

One thing to be aware of is that colored bark maples tend to be overly prone to Pseudomonas syringae, a pathogen that causes stem dieback and if left unchecked, can be fatal. It is most prominent in spring and often due to climate stresses. Watch for any outer stems turning black and progressing down into the branches and trunk.

ETA: Only fertilize during the growing season or when the tree is in leaf. If leaves have not yet appeared, the tree is still dormant and cannot assimilate the ferts. That can cause unnecessary stress.
