Master Bedroom Update

My master bedroom needs an update, it's been 10 years and it needs a fresh look. I would like to keep the bed and nightstands, but I am not attached to much else. The builtins have become a dumping ground for accessories that no longer work elsewhere. need help but don't know where to begin.

I love how you have completed it - the bed styling looks great. I might use some of your ideas;)

I agree, it looks so nice! There was a new discussion just yesterday where someone was working on a bedroom and had dark wood furniture and brown bedding like Margaret used to have. They were looking for ideas and all I could think of was how much Margaret has "lightened" the look and feel of her room with the changes. I should probably find that discussion and post a link to this one - would that be OK Margaret?

    Hello!

I see the gang is all here and I am late to the party. The room looks great! Look what I found...a ceiling fan with chandelier. I found it on the products page on houzz and it is pricey. I also googled it and there were a few options.

Hey all sorry I have been absent. Taking care of my parents, mom was in hospital, dad needed help, been a long couple weeks but today we signed the papers for assisted living!!!! Hoping to get back home tomorrow evening raise those mirrors and move on. Going to open a new dilemma on how to decorate their two bedroom unit in the assist living apartments. Should be a hoot.

Hi Margaret- sorry to hear that. It is hard to make all these health care choices. We are here when you are ready;)

Hopefully, that all happened without too much resistance Margaret. Those assisted living facilities can give you as the child a lot of peace of mind knowing they're safe and eating well, etc. And, all those activities they can choose to participate in if they want to.

Hey, don't be sorry, this is a happy day! This decision was long over do and we have been traveling back and forth for years dealing with this, it's just life. Thanks for the support means a lot. We can turn this into a fun dilemma. Have to cram about 4000 feet of furniture into 3 small rooms.

Ann it is a great facility, along with meals, activities and general care their is a staff of three that deal with Alzheimer's and memory management. There are only a hundred residents, they only take on 10 Alzheimer's patients at a time, it was just pure luck that they had an opening with a two bedroom unit and my dad was finally willing to do something. My mom will finally get the care she needs and my dad will get some stimulation by being around people again. Honestly it is a good thing, my mom is resistant, but the good thing is she will forget in 10 minutes. :)

I hear you, Margaret - those places are often quite nice and some of the residents seem to have a wonderful time with their new social opportunities. Years ago, it seems there were only nursing homes, but now there are so many good options for seniors and their children to consider! Certainly not inexpensive though. My mom had long term care insurance and that was a huge help.

Hi Margaret, what a great attitude you have concerning one of the hardest decisions we sometimes have to make. It sounds like a wonderful place for both your mom and dad.

I look forward to seeing this new dilemma!

Margaret, not on the subject of your bedroom but I came into Houzz just now and this pic was up. Isn't this the exact same fabric as the fabric you have on a chair in your living room?

It was the same fabric, the chairs are at the upholster! I loved your chairs so much I am having mine done in a similar fabric with a bit more texture. What do they say about imitation being the biggest form of flattery? LOL
  • 12 years ago
Oh, that's nice. I do absolutely LOVE those wing chairs now that they've been reupholstered. Our houses are really coming along, aren't they? I've learned so very much from hanging out on Houzz!

I have learned a lot too! I have watched your living room transformation and many others in the past year. The best rooms all have neutral upholstery with accent colors brought in through art, decor and area rugs. So I am rebuilding my foundation in the Great room and going to start over with a few things! Thanks for sharing your journey it has helped me tremendously!
I feel just the same about your journey helping me, Margaret:) Gotta say, no one has ever done as good of a job with a TV wall as you have! Seriously, I have never seen a better one!

Too funny, Margaret. I had my iPad on my bookmarked threads when you posted your last pic and it just popped up with a different pic! All done, finally and looking beautiful and serene. In PA we are turning the clocks back tonite. It's closer to bedtime!

Wow, it looks so nice Margaret!!! The bedding was a wonderful choice and I remember how nice the dresser looks too. Did the reupholstered chair come back yet?

No chair yet, I called Friday and he has not started on it yet. I took three chairs to him, hopefully he will do the bedroom chair first.
Well, I'm sure they'll be worth the wait. I still can't get over the difference it made to have my plaid chairs reupholstered. The whole process took quite a while but boy was it worth the wait. Several people were suggesting I start over with new chairs, but I felt it was worth repurposing my Hickory and Ethan Allen chairs. I'm so glad I stuck with that decision:)
I can't believe the changes in your room since the original pic in this post! The room has such an incredibly calm, serene look now - simply beautiful!

Your chair is beautiful!!. Especially next to your gorgeous dresser!! Which pup is checking it out?

Love the other chairs too. You know how I feel about your tv credenza...as a matter of fact, I have decided to paint mine; seeing yours again confirms it...no talking me out of it haha!
Congrats to Nancy and also to Margaret on this room!!!

    Thanks Mary Kay and Abby!

Mary Kay that's Lilly, she has a habit of taking advantage of photo ops, she always sneaks into my pictures. She is so pretty and wants everyone to know it! I tried 3 times to get a picture of that chair and Lilly managed to be in all of them. BTW, I would never talk you out of painting anything! I think people make too big of a deal over painting furniture. It's just paint and if you don't like it you can always strip the paint and stain it.
Soft, elegant, and beautifully done, Margaret. Congratulations!

Lilly is beautiful and should be in all the pictures!

I'm going to give it a go. I only hope it turns out as beautiful as yours. Tv still need to be hung and framed: I keep rearranging the furniture and hubby starts the two month rule again about hanging the tv; can't even hold it against him grrrrrr!
