Hi Teri, great question. We determine the location for sconces for each project individually. There are lots of factors at play, such as: how much space is available, how big is the vanity, how tall is the ceiling, are there adjacent walls, how big is the mirror, or if a medicine cabinet then we need to consider the swing of the door potentially hitting the projecting sconces, how wide and tall are the sconces, and is the light source towards the top or bottom?

However, a good place to start is 5" from edge of mirror frame to the edge of the sconce, and for height, think about the light source illuminating your face. For height, we often place sconces flanking mirrors somewhere between 63 to 70" off the floor "on center". Start there, and then adjust as needed. With wanting flanking sconces like this in narrow spaces, don't be afraid to go with a narrower mirror in order to get the look you want. Good luck with your project!
