It's about how your family lives. While the prep is going on are their visitors? It's nice then for seating at the island. We gather around ours a lot for snacks a dinner is being prepped. We have very comfy stolls fully uphosltered withs swivels. When DH and I are alone we breakfast there but that's all. I don't feel it's a substitue place for meals.

What has your kitchen designer that you hired suggested, based on your needs? I for one do not like the traffic paths created by a too long island. It cuts off circulation and access to the exterior.

But your kitchen actually appears to not be wide enough for any island. It looks like whomever is doing the graphics is unaware of kitchen design standards for work aisles. They really really do not know what they are doing if they placed the range in front of the window where your sink is now.

The narrow width of your kitchen eliminates any island option. The layout you have is the best option.

We have a prep island and kitchen table now and i plan to redssign to a large island with seating, as i prefer to be at the island where the prep is happening to sit. but thats my preference and everyone is different!

To clarify, we do have room for an island of up to 36 inches deep to be ADA compliant, please keep in mind this is only picture you are looking at which can be deceiving. Measurements have been taken properly twice by the contractor as well as the cabinet company. Also, most houses in my development all have done islands already (all houses are the same). My friend across the street did an island with traditional seating look. It works for them, but felt tight to me and I like space. This is why my contractor suggested seating at the end of the island where we have ample space bc no cabinets will be run behind there.

This is just a rendering. The range is not where the window is. The window is still there but just an error in that one particular rendering view. The window will stay, the range is further down and now positioned on the exterior wall (better for venting directly outside). If you look at the aerial view, you see the light coming through where the window is. Thank though ✌🏻

Lastly, those commenting it is too narrow for any island also aren’t seeing what is behind or how far things extend. Some even more clarification….

The blue tape is where the island would end and that little piece of blue tape is where the cabinets behind it will end. No seating in that area. What commenters aren’t realizing (bc they didn’t ask) is that the wall sticking out there is a very deep weird closet that will be removed and replaced by cabinets.

Yes a plan with all dimensions is needed. Also, in addition to the nightmare traffic patterns around a huge island I’d think hard about cutting off the openness of the full height window.
