Wandering Through Wednesday's Wonders

I have a lot more seedlings blooming today than registered daylilies, but I'll start with the registered ones. Many had trouble opening or were splotchy today.

Bluegrass Shadows had a fairly clean bloom today. The first two were very splotchy.

Hearts That Care ffo

Cameroon Night ffo - Very few buds this year and only one scape at registered height.

Wonder of It All is taller and better budded than it's been in at least five years. I guess the grubs didn't eat the roots last fall.

White Tooth X Skater #4 - This White Tooth seedling shows the least impact from frigid Winter and late Freeze. Last year the scapes were only 22-25 inches tall. This year they are 33 inches tall and growing. Bud count is in the teens, and the blooms are 7+ inches.. This one multiplies fast. There were four blooms today, but I couldn't fit the fourth one in the frame. With heat this one should have a toothier edge.

Pink Lemonade Party X Bubblegum Queen #1 - Bloom is a little larger than 6 inches. The throat is greener than it appears in my photo. #2 also bloomed. It was more of peachy pink with a smaller flower but more ornate edge.

Gypsy Cats seedling X Rip Saw #3 - This is the second bloom on this one. The first one didn't show any teeth, and today we got some. I think the edge will be toothier when we hit the 90s on Friday. The red color is very irridescent, which my photo fails to capture.

Some lovely blooms today, Debra! Of course I will love Hearts That Care for the color if nothing else. Very pretty. Cameroon Nigh is really showy, and I like it. Jungle Queen X Applique #1 with a poly is very neat. and a poly to boot! Gypsy CAts is a real showoff and that seedling is a pretty one. and yet another White Tooth seedling gets my vote on this batch, I really like them, every one.e

Hearts that Care does look like a very intense color. Was it affected by the winter or March cold? The White Tooth seedling is certainly a pleasant surprise.

Nice group but I love the White Tooth X Skater #4 seedling. Nice photo grouping.

Wednesday Wonder's is right! The named varieties are nice, but the stars of the show are your seedlings! White Tooth X Skater#4 is great and it's wonderful that your stats have improved that much. Gypsy Cats seedling X Ripsaw is a wonderful color. The Pink Lemonade seedlings is lovely. I am not much into appliques that that is a very interesting applique on the last seedling.

A pretty picture of Bluegrass Shadows. I did not have one clean bloom on limited scapes and buds. The seedlings are the winners here. I always like your pink sedlings and the White Tooth seedling is stunning.

Mantis - Hearts That Care has been much shorter than the registered 28 inches the previous two years I grew it. This year it's the tallest it's ever been - just a hair under 27 inches. But the bud count is low - 9. It's registered as having 28 buds.

WHITE TOOTH x SKATER #4 seedling is a WOW! I love the color and there is a lot going on with the blooms. Teeth, midribs, the starburst pattern of the throat, the eye, etc... I would say if the bud count is in the upper teens to low 20s, then you would have a winner.

I like your Gypsy Cats seedling. You had some last year or the year before that were pink out of Pink Aloha. Do you still have them?.........Nice color on Hearts that Care.........Maryl

I'm glad so many of you like White Tooth X Skater #4. David, I only wiish it had bud counts like you mention. At this point, the bud count is in the lowest teen - 13. But since bud counts are down on everything, I would hope that improves next year. It is definitely a keeper for my garden. Whether it will ever be registered remains to be seen. It does rebloom well. With the late freeze, all my other White Tooth seedlings have less than 10 buds this year, although several had 12-14 their first year to bloom.

Maryl - I do still have the Pink Aloha seedling. It won't bloom for a week or two.
