We put in engineered wood floors in our new build, after having lived with site finished wood floors in our previous 3 houses. Very happy with the engineered wood floors. Ours have a Hard Wax Oil finish and you can do searches online for comparisons with polyurethane finishes. You will find that most comparisons are not balanced and people seem to hate one or the other!

Ours are from DuChateau, Riverstone collection. We have been in the house 16 months, with 3 dogs (2 large & active) and we are very happy so far with the durability and ease of cleaning. We use the cleaning products sold by the manufacturer. Our small dog regularly throws up on the floors and they clean up easily with no marks left. No stains left from dog drool, even when cleaned after it dried. I dropped a full mug of hot scalding tea, mopped it up with some towels and no effects on the floor.

7.5" width. 4mm wear layer. Medium brown European oak with some texture. The texture and slight aged character is what really makes it durable, as it hides any scratches that might happen and would be very obvious on a smooth slick looking surface. If I had to choose again, I would pick this engineered floor over the site finished floors we had in our previous houses.

Also love my engineered floors. I don’t recall the manufacturer (builder lost our paperwork in a move), but they are wire brushed white oak with a dark stain, 7.5” wide and random lengths. No issues. My family wears shoes indoors and we have two dogs. Well, one dog now. Elderly dogs had frequent accidents and it never did a thing to the floors. They run throughout the house, have held up great in kitchen, powder room and entry. I vacuum with a stick vac and damp mop them. Floors are almost 6 years old and they still look great. Had site finished red oak before this, and it had to have a sand and recoat about every five years. I would definitely get engineered again.

We love our engineered wood floors - Cassabella line called American Relics has since been discontinued. This photo was the floors going in 6 years ago….5 dogs, 2 boys and still looks brand new (we vacuum and occasionally use Bona as directed).

PS - good advice to order a minimum of 2 extra boxes (or more depending on your level of comfort with risk) in case someday you have a leaky DW or fridge and then need some boards replaced. These pre-finished lines are always discontinued at some point and unlike solid site finished you’ll be stuck with potentially replacing all your flooring if an accident occurred in a small area. Be sure to store them in a conditioned space (say under a guest bed, etc).

We are very happy with our engineered wood floors. Five years with this house and the engineered wood floors we had in our old condo are still going strong 13 years later.
