Blooming on Monday

We really appreciated the rain we had on Sunday--about an inch. The flowers, however, don't look that good today because it was just too chilly last night--down around 50 degrees.

Here are some that looked good.

Bucklebury Ferry had its first flower open for the season. The gold color is a little less vibrant than it usually is.

All the rest are seedlings.

This was the first flower open for this seedling, Twiggy X Out of Balance. We don't see many uf cascades here.

We were surprised by the black coloring on this seedling. Unfortunately, the black was only on the top of the scape. It is Itsy Bitsy Spider X Indelible Blood.

Adavier X O Positive

This three year old seedling is Geometric Wizard X Time in a Bottle.

So far, I think this is the prettiest of the Belief in Vein X Toucan Kiss seedlings.

Here is another Cherry Pie a la Mode X Rosie with a Ring.

I think this is one of prettiest of Bob's fulva hybrids. It is (Fulva Switzerland X Unknown) X Melanie's Smile.

This fulva is ((Fulva Yunnan X Empire of Dawn and Dusk) X Crimson Stories) X Red Eyed Queen.

Interesting how Adavier produced such a dark seedling. How large is the bloom? You seem to have had good success with Red Eyed Queen, but someone who lives about 50 miles from Waldrop's badmouthed it as being slow to increase and a bit tender (she lost her first plant). She did say it was a beautiful flower; maybe seedlings will be even better.

Mantis, the Adavier seedling's bloom is probably about 4 inches. Red Eyed Queen as well for us as about any southern bred daylily we have grown. It hasn't made a huge clump, but it is a clump. The scapes aren't as tall as the registered stats say they should be. When using southern ones, we try to always cross them with something we know to be hardy.
